Chromatican 4,046
This would actually be terrible, it would keep Republicans out of the White House and decrease their overall power, but we’d also have far-right politicians and policies legitimized alongside liberal policies and politicians. This would ultimately just force the Republicans to go even further than the Trump party to even be a viable option. It could actually splinter the Dems as well as a possible side effect. I really doubt Trump will be much of a political figure by the time the 2024 election is ramping up. He is the first one term president since the early 1990’s and the first one-term Republican to not precede or follow another Republican in over a century. The Dems need to take advantage of the mess that Trump left in his wake and really weaponize the disastrous nature of the Trumplicans.

Bc right now, if you're not a dem or a rep, you will only ever see the White House from the outside . I'm not American, but that is what I imagine the current political situation is over there Actually, current trends have it becoming a one party dictatorship... like it is in California... Republicans are declining in the polls due largely to Trump leadership and blind 'party' politics.. The Dem's , no less corrupt and inept at leadership are gaining ground nationally.. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. PunkTheFunk 125,703
This sounds like an easy win for the Democrats but I feel like this would actually be really terrible for the country and lead to another Civil War. Assuming Republicans bleed most of their support to this other Trump party and it becomes the official opposition to the Democrats, the level of division in America would literally go through the roof. If the Trump party is unable to secure power through an election what do you think they will resort to? Healthy debates? Concession speeches? It will be Capitol Insurrections every week. Legitimizing Trumpism even further would be a disaster. Be careful what you wish for.

Like, I get that Trump—in 2016—positioned himself as an "outsider" and "anti-establishment" candidate, which might appeal to some of the more progressive members of the Democratic party, but that's where the similarities end...His views and the views of his followers are literally the polar opposite, why would they join his party? it's probably registered democrats that have long been voting for republicans like kentucky and west virginia

Luc 4,776
Be careful what you wish for, remember how we prayed in 2016 that Trump would win the Republican primaries because he would split the R vote? See how that turned out... I think that a Trump party will lead the Democratic party to split into a centre/centre-right Macronist and a hard-left counterpart, with the former becoming the most popular as centre-right Republicans join that party making it the biggest, or what will happen is that the Trump party manages to somehow win anyways. Center left/right need to work together.. Its the only hope of preventing a civilwar type spiit.... Far right/Left extremist anti-unity factions are the problem here. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Yeah...I question that statistic. Maybe the question was phrased to refer to a third party in general, not necessarily Trump’s third party. There’s no way 15% of people who consider themselves Democrats would vote for Trump in a future election

There's an ebb and Flo based on the lower class suffering... When the Dem's get exposed as being just as corrupt as anyone then then 'conservatives' will get some ... Trumps more of a nationalist extremist and he's using conservative sympathies to get votes... like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. Mister G 10,512
A Trump exclusive political party would almost literally be the death of the GOP. He was very good at dividing the country, and he's gotten better at dividing the GOP so they can have each other The obsession people have with him as some leader of anything is the more disturbing part. It's basically cult-like behavior at this point; they cannot handle a reality where Trump is not in a position of political power.

Having what will be a far-right, nationalist party just seems... bad. I know the argument is that it will take people away from the Republicans and split that party, which, great, but long term I don't know... Remember in 2015 everyone was hooting and hollering at the idea of Trump actually running and how he would tank the Repubs Just feels like the start of a chapter in a history book that doesn't end well I think you're right. For one thing I can't see a Trump party being in the business of accepting election results that put Democrats in power. I think that would be one of the defining characteristics of such a party.
