This is the first time I've ever heard someone say that a Caucasian man rapping is cultural appropriation. Seriously? Are we being for real here? You must despise Eminem. The African American man blasting Em's music through his Bluetooth speakers, who I met if few weeks ago, certainly doesn't.

Tom's not using anything against people of color. He believes we are all getting screwed the same by the system. I disagree with him, but what he said was not hateful.

There are two quotes from Tom's song Cancelled that are relevant here. One of them is, "I braid my hair and I don't care about cultural appropriation." I don't braid my hair, but I genuinely don't believe in cultural appropriation.

I'm a queer man who sometimes dresses in female clothing. Am I appropriating an entire gender of people because I have a feminine side?

I'm a Jew who doesn't care if people who aren't Jewish make Holocaust jokes. I think it's hilarious.

A non-Jewish African American man walked into a Jewish store I used to shop at when I was religious. He wanted to purchase a yarmulke/kippah. Did I consider it religious or cultural appropriation? Not in the least. I found it beautiful.

Traditionally, in Judaism, only men wear yarmulkes/kippot. Women started wearing them too. Do I consider that gender appropriation within the religion? Not at all.

In another one of Tom's songs, I don't remember the title nor do I remember the exact quote, but I remember the idea, he says whereas some people consider his tattoos to be appropriation, he considers them to be paying homage.

Sometimes the truth gets lost in the details. I suppose that's why they say the devil is in the details. I think it's important people do what they can to remain consistent while looking at the underlying intentions of others, whether or not they agree with the way they're being expressed.

Yes, I know there's a phrase that says the road to hell is paved with good intentions, but if someone is well intended, that is to say they're not trying to detract from the well-being of others and possibly even believe they're doing something positive, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, even if I disagree wholeheartedly.

It's like Tom says in the song Snowflakes: "All the contradictions are embarrassing."

To end my reply on a positive note, I will give the second quote from Tom's song, Cancelled: "I lived in the ghetto, lived in South Central. There's no Caucasians and still I loved every single one of my neighbors."

Peace ☮️☮️☮️

Nice attempt at gaslighting and talking in rings to avoid getting to the point of what I said. My point is and still is; Rap was invented by black people and he is using it to mostly hate on people of color. His lyrics are riddled in anti POC speech. It's one thing to be pro freedom of speech, it's another to be full of hate and resentfulness and this man is full of it. He uses right wing talking points to try to seem counter culture but he is just falling for the popular right wing narratives which are no longer counter culture...they are mainstream. It's embarrassing.

If you want to focus on the "appropriation" portion go right on ahead. I will not stand back from what I said. I guess that's something me and this Tom fellow have in common whether I like it or not lol. We both believe in what we say whole heartedly. Only difference is I'm not here trying to harm minority groups and trying to mock people who care for their rights.... whereas he is.

We're ashamed to be American, you should probably love it

'Cause you have the right to say it and not get strung up in public

[Video version: "Cause you have the right to hate it and not get stoned to death in public"]

This logic is almost as stupid as the people who say stuff like "you shouldn't kneel for the national anthem! Soliders died for your right to do that!".

Yes, we have the freedom to protest things we see as injustices. Why does having the right to do that mean we shouldn't exercise that right? :rip:

Those line stuck out to me in particular. The rest is just a MAGA/KKK/Nazi/alt-right dog whistle :huntyga:
