LittleMonster20 9,853 Posted January 30, 2021 Share Posted January 30, 2021 I often see this term thrown around about certain songs when an album is released but I’ve always wondered what is exactly considered a ‘filler’ song? To me, a filler means a song that doesn’t give an unique listening experience. Or in other words, a song that could have been left out of the album without the album being perceived differently. I also think fillers are a way to make the album longer if necessary and are often very lazily done in comparison to the other songs (same type of production as a lot of songs, weaker lyrics). dynamite 58,543 Posted January 30, 2021 Share Posted January 30, 2021 I think a filler is a song that wouldn't have usually been intended to go on an album but was added to fill space or because they ran out of time etc. A song being bad doesn't automatically make it filler for me. Like if you were to take the filler song out the album, the album would still make sense. Its a track just there to fill time. Heavy Metal Love is a filler track for example, and Gypsy on ARTPOP. GreenDiamond 6,286 Posted January 30, 2021 Share Posted January 30, 2021 Gaga is with every album having hard time choosing what song to fit in album and which one to left our, So I think that in true meaning, Gagas albums have NO fillers because she already made bunch of songs and there is not one quickly recorded song just to make album longer... To me a filler would be a very generic on trend song that brings nothing new or meaningful to the table in any way (vocally, instrumentally, lyrically, conceptually etc). The lyrics doesn't add anything to the album as a whole. I don’t not like HML but it is a filler.
