HausOfAntonio 7,995
I'm currently doing some research on Gaga and adjacent topics for my uni dissertation and ran across this article from 2011 which completely predicted and foresaw Gaga's evolution into ARTPOP https://theamericanscholar.org/monster-theor/ The final paragraph sums it up completely: "Are academics unduly gaga over Gaga? “She’s really adamant about serious meaning and high art,” Durbin maintains. “That may be her one entirely new thing. Warhol brought pop into the museum; Gaga is bringing high art into pop culture.” Did our good sis Gaga STEAL Ms. Elyse's concept and claimed it as her own? Did she tell her about ARTPOP EXCLUSIVELY all the way back then and threw it into the world hoping Little Detectives would catch on? Or was Gaga so acutely aware of critical perceptions of herself that she decided to make an entire album to subvert it? Discuss sistren.

Bradley 58,131
wait a minute, I might be 6 years late but I think I just understood what ARTPOP was actually supposed to do. I knew she wanted to 'bring art to the forefront' but the word 'art' wasn't really clearly defined in my head. This connection to Warhol actually made the album make much more sense. I'd say Gaga's endeavour was more successful in the visual department than the sonic department tho, the album still sounds much like an EDM record, though the visuals and her outfits and candids were killer. voidfigure 1,612
Well actually some people said "she brought art into pop and elevated pop music to performance art" about her since The Monster Ball but nice coincidence
BlondeQueenOfGGD 25,454
Gaga should avenge ARTPOP and release an ARTPOP ACT II
tylerjs 5,572
This is literally the most ARTPOP thing to happen in the era lmfao. It’s actually super interesting and really brings the concept full circle imo. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, ARTPOP would be her magnum opus if not for BTW. skip the replies. 🇨🇺🇧🇸 monica from rhoslc kinda had a point
RRR 3,996
I think Gaga said this sort of thing in an interview and the concept for the article was stolen directly from Ms. Gaga herself
ARTGOD 3,266
I mean ARTPOP is both musically and conceptually the natural conclusion of what she had been doing with her career up to that point. The “reverse warholian expedition” is something that had been a part of her vision since the beginning, in ARTPOP she just makes it the central focus. It sadly wasn’t executed in the way she wanted, but it’s still clear that’s what she’s going for. I feel like with ARTPOP she put an end to a project. ARTPOP is the maximum expression of everything Gaga was, and after taking everything to its extreme, there’s basically nowhere to go after that. That’s also a big reason why she dropped the character a bit after the album, she needed to take her time to find a new way to give meaning to Lady Gaga. Chromatica as an artistic statement was ultimately disappointing because it doesn’t feel like she’s quite found what Lady Gaga is supposed to be now. She needed to find a new vision, a new project, a reason for Lady Gaga to exist and have a place in today’s scene. She’s kinda there, but she’s not fully reached it. I think everyone wanted Gaga to come back and revolutionize the music industry yet again and show us what pop music is truly capable of, but it seems like her vision for the Lady Gaga Project 2.0 is much less ambitious than that so far.
