I think what she meant is that she personally didn’t try to use her looks to get famous or whatever.

But that's also false since she was a model, you know.

Why did she think she was chosen to be a model

People with white privilege: “I’ve never experienced or felt white privilege helped me with my life. It’s all my grit and hardwork.”

Replace “white” with “pretty” “rich” etc.

Nobody is born equal. White, black, in the states, in Africa, ugly, pretty, disabled, rich family, poor family, intelligence...

I get what she's saying though. She was born with the beauty that obviously helps, but people would be foolish to think someone at the level of Dua Lipa had it all served on a silver platter. There's obviously a lot of work behind, and a lot of sacrifices. She wanted to highlight that, as she should I think.

I mean okay but she is talking about her music career.. All that she's saying is that she didn't have it easy and that her looks were never the only reason she is where she is. She is extremely talented and she truly works hard.

I won't create an issue out of her statement but being pretty sure helped her a lot. But yeah, beauty is only 'something else' for those who don't see themselves as ''pretty''.

Of course, her looks is double edged sword in the industry.

I hope she won't be remembered as just a pretty face.

Exactly! Just like Britney! Yes she was pretty! But Baby One More Time was far more important in her success than her beauty!

Baby One More Time was a success because they basically sold her sexiness. It was a scandal for such a young girl to be so provocatively dressed.

the context of this comment is needed. when you read the whole article it mentions that the interviewer made the comment at first about how Dua's beauty may have helped her career which obviously felt like it discredited Dua's years of hard work and hustle (literally since she was 9) and so Dua responded politely but quickly to try and change the convo. A few days later Dua did a video call with the same interviewer and brought up her question again indicating that it rightfully bothered her a bit but still managed to make her think about it and here she owns the fact that she is pretty and she does not deny it (meaning she is aware) BUT that she would not associate it as the main factor in her success. And low key she is totally right. How many stunning popgirls appeared and disappeared right after one hit single? MANY. Some because of horrible labels, lack of talent etc..but many also because they just did not have the work ethic and ambition that Dua has and so this is why she is right. Beauty can only get you so far. Talent and hard work is what makes you STICK and so far Dua's career is looking great.

A non attractive person would never have gotten away with singing the type of songs she does. That's why musical geniuses are most often unattractive, the pretty ones don't have to try as hard :billie:
