I agree. But that matters more if it's done quickly before the virus even gets into the nation...

 

By the time what was going on became apparent covid was already in a bunch of countries even if we didn't have tests at the time to confirm it

 

For example in Italy they found proof based on a sample from a sick 4 year old boy by referencing an old saved sample that he was infected in mid fall of 2019... 

 

NZ being far away and not as populated also may have helped the first case take way longer to make it in and start spreading and by the time we knew what was going on they acted early

 

A country like Italy could of had the greatest leadership ever hypothetically they still woulda been screwed as they were among the first countries infected and getting community spread before anyone even realized what was going on

 

And as I said how cooperative a population is matters too

 

So there's lots of variables. Leadership is important and yes Trump failed miserably but leadership is not the only factor
