Donald Trump was “completely wrong” to cast doubt on the result of the US presidential election and to encourage supporters to storm the Capitolbuilding, prime minister Boris Johnson has said.

Mr Johnson said that he “unreservedly condemns” acts that encouraged a mob of rioters to break into the US Congress in Washington DC on Wednesday evening.

And he left no doubt that he rejects Mr Trump’s claim that the result of November’s presidential election was fraudulent, saying he was pleased that “democracy has prevailed” through the confirmation of Joe Biden as president-elect.

Asked to what extent he felt Mr Trump was responsible for last night’s shocking scenes, the PM told a Downing Street press conference:  “All my life America has stood for some very important things - an idea of freedom, an idea of democracy.

“And insofar as he encouraged  people to storm the Capitol and insofar as the president consistently has cast doubt on the outcome of a free and fair election, I believe that was completely wrong.”

In his strongest response yet to Wednesday’s events, Mr Johnson added: “What President Trump has been saying about that has been completely wrong and I unreservedly condemn encouraging people to behave in the disgraceful way they did in the Capitol.

“I am very pleased that the president-elect has been duly confirmed in office and that democracy has prevailed.”

But will he ban Trump from coming to the UK? That's what we want, that's what we need... but we all know that Trump is his best mate

I never thought that I would be in agreement with PM Johnson.

However, shame on him for not standing up to this sooner. This event at thwarting democracy was expected, given Trump's rhetoric and his past 4 years in office. Yet no British PM would stand up to him. Being an ally with the USA doesn't mean that we are submissive to everything they say and do. To have an actual working alliance with them we should be able to tell them when we think they're wrong and heading in the wrong direction.

After years of sucking up to him, Boris Johnson finally finds the bravery to stand up to Donald (but only after everyone else had first) :applause:  #FreeScotland

Those are restricted for violating terms and service. But yes he did encourage it, he literally held a rally and told them to go to the capitol

The unfortunate truth is that both America and UK politics, and by extension, Trump and Boris, are affected by the same issues and they were caused by the same issues; Misinformation by Conservatives, spread via social media paid for by the highest bidder.

Both had the support of Cambridge Analytica, a data mining company that specifically targeted demographics of people to bombard them with biased images, adverts and messages, and both benefitted from social media algorythms created to give people tailer made content leading people down rabbit holes.

Its not a coincidence that Trump Supporters are now anti-science, anti-vaxx and believe q-anon conspiracy theories, because they were literally led by the hand to them.

When it comes to the UK, The Brexit Campaign was supported by CA, and it became the defining issue of UK politics. General Elections were then focused on that issue, and misinformation campaigns lead by conservatives.

Low and behold, they end up the same; two grossly inepth, underqualified and overly entitled politicians with no real expirience, benefitting from the manipulation of the everyday person's fears and concerns.
