Okay but you can live a perfectly healthy lifestyle and still need healthcare. Genetics play a big role.

He seemed like he is referring to illnesses that come from an unhealthy lifestyle linked to the 'way we eat'.

Healthcare is a fundamental need of humans, even for those following healthy diets. :ladyhaha:

Imagine defending this rich tool.

Most people in the country cannot afford to eat healthy, and a huge part of the country cannot afford to eat at all hence the foodlines.

I think a lot of people can afford to eat healthy but choose not to because it's not convenient or easy. And also if you choose or have to eat unhealthy maybe you should look into other ways of offsetting that?

Just saying that your own health is kinda your own responsibility, I smoked for 9 years and lived like I was invincible, eating whatever and then wondered why I felt like s*** or started getting health problems. Truth is, the world doesn't care for you so the sooner you take what you can into your own hands the better.

This obviously doesn't apply to anyone who doesn't have a choice but saying 'most' people can't afford to live healthy is a stretch.

I don’t think healthcare “should not exist” lmao a carrot won’t fix a broken arm, we both know that, but diet is tremendously influential on health

On the one hand, yes, there's a lot we could prevent by eating healthier. However, access to healthy food is not equal; some people barely have access to anything to eat, let alone "healthy" food. Overpriced groceries at Whole Foods isn't the answer to Americans eating healthier.

Moreover, there are lots of health issues that arise that have nothing to do with one's diet. Additionally, there are other solutions that would help improve people's health, such as: less stress in their lives; access to clean water; the means to receive preventative medical screenings; and so on.

Eating healthy is a great start, but it's not enough, and not everyone has that privilege.

When you live paycheck to paycheck you can’t afford to eat extra healthy.

I get where he’s coming from, and I personally have changed my diet completely in the last few months to ensure better health. BUT, it’s an absurd thing to say, because healthcare will always be needed. You cannot live in a society that completely does away with healthcare and doesn’t acknowledge that their are medical issues that are outside of your control.

This isn't about anyone's personal experiences sweetie, it is about the fact that millions of people in America live below the poverty line (especially black and Indigenous populations) and have access to only fast food restaurants as well as liquor/corner-stores. Are you saying the 25% of Native Americans living in poverty are to blame for their circumstances then? The world needs to start caring about people or we won't survive this century with global fisheries set to collapse in 2050.

I don't think he is saying no one should ever need healthcare.

He is making a point that a lot of illnesses stem from lifestyle choice which *could* be avoided if we took better care of our bodies.

Maybe America really is way worse than the UK because my family have been dirt poor my whole life and we still can afford to cook somewhat healthy meals.

We don't have anything like the NHS in the USA either.

I mean our air, water, Earth are literally poisoned by industrial pollution. :yennefer: maybe he should use his immense wealth to pressure companies to have better policies about environmental protections, but that wouldn’t be the best for his bottom line so he won’t.

Coca Cola intentionally has gotten many parts of Mexico addicted to their soda. In some parts it is more available than clean water.

Why? To sell more.

Should they be held responsible for the spike in diabetes? Absolutely.

Crimes against humanity.

also healthcare is preventative! If Americans lived in better conditions and had free access to healthcare they would be able to take better care of their health in the long run. I stg rich ppl are full of sh*t.
