Stephen 30,423
Read the whole post please! With every album, Gaga creates an idea and through the era she seeks to bring that idea to life. For example: With The Fame, her idea was to manifest her own stardom and it came true. With Born This Way, her idea was to spread the message of love and acceptance all around the world, and it came true. With Joanne, her idea was to heal her family's trauma and thusly heal herself. This time, Gaga did not succeed in bringing her idea to a reality. Yes the album was great, won awards, and had a successful tour but she didn't accomplish what she set out to do. She told Zane Lowe this year: “I made that record and realized I couldn’t fix my dad so I kind of gave up. Cause I was like “if I can’t fix my dad, then what’s the point?”” This is why she was so depressed during the making of Chromatica. My point is, I think Gaga writes music as a way of communicating her dreams. She dreams of what she wants to accomplish, and she sings it in hopes that it will come true. It's a theme that runs through her music. The album details her mental health struggles (911, Fun Tonight, Replay) but it also provides a solution to the pain: healing through music. That's what Sine From Above is about. Rain On Me is her manifesto of resilience. The problem is, she was never able to perform these songs for her fans. She wasn't able to see it connecting with us, to see and hear us singing her lyrics back to her, to see how it has affected and healed us too. She didn't get to experience the music, and live the message of Rain On Me on stage. She's only performed it for a camera crew on a sound stage. Without these EXPERIENCES, I genuinely believe the message of Chromatica hasn't been validated in her mind, and thusly there is a lack of inspiration. In order to keep her momentum she needs to see the music coming true. Thoughts?
Kimmo 80,613
You can still sing it back to her with Oreos Hottie Detector
LittleMonster20 9,858
I mean that could be but I don’t think she’s uninspired. If anything, I think it makes her more excited for when it’s possible again. For all we know she could be planning something really major at the moment to compensate for the lack of live performances next year? I don’t know. But Gaga will definitely do something for the end of the Chromatica era. If it isn’t the tour I’m sure she’ll organize something. And maybe she’ll use some of the original Chromatica plans for LG7 era?

vyniildisk 12,689
omg i don't know if she is uninspired or not, but wow, i loved your post and it resonates with my state of mind so much. I was unaware she had this mindset at the beggining of her career. I will always be connected with Gaga in some way or another. Happy 2021
SHALLOW 16,385
I agree that she was unispired while making this album. But she didn't know she wouldn't be able to sing the songs later on cause no one knew Covid would happen so that's not the reason. I think after the success of ASIB she realized she could just relax a little and just make a "fun" album without much effort.
r4therupbeat 1,587
in case you wonder if the Chromatica msg has been validated in her mind just watch the hour long interview she did on her YouTube channel. trying to re-invent her self every era is admirable, however it is easier to get other people to do it for her and not worth it anymore as she does not like sticking to planning or carry out an era like she used to do up until ARTPOP. (meaning same outfits, wigs etc for every single era, without huge breaks in between etc).
Guest
I have to say, the message of BTW really touches my heart. It proves there really is no other artists like Gaga, who just want to spread love around the world and with the song she saved/changed so many people's lives and continues to do so! Years on, her message hasn't changed and I'm so excited when she can come back and do what she wanted to for this era!

The way you skipped ARTPOP I think you are taking music industry too serious. Take into account that Gaga has evaluated through years. And something may be more profitable than basic music work. (diffrent projects and campaings). Gaga`s career is mature, so she doesn`t need promote herself that much like Billie Eilish or Ariana Grande. Wet Fire 7,406
The OP has such a good point Gaga has always said she's first and foremost a performer. I don't think she finds any point in performing in front of camera if there's no live audience in front of her. I feel like that's why we've got only one performance this era. Plus, Chromatica is about dancing through your pain. But the clubs are shut down. All of this must have made her feel like the album isn't achieving its purpose. Though I don't think the process of making this album was at all uninspired. She might be uninspired in the promotion of the era, not the music. And yes I didn't mean to imply the making of the album was uninspired. She was depressed because of Joanne but clearly Chromatica inspired her. I'm just saying once the pandemic hit her inspiration hit a brick wall because the album couldn't achieve it's purpose, like you said.

ShayCristoforo 10,607
I also think she could have closed the book. She wrote it, it healed her, the end. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.

A crisis regarding the purpose of her art. Failing to cure her father's sadness through her music kind of revealed to her the limits of music. (It's a fact that you cannot cure anyone else's sadness. You can only cure your own. She learned it the hard way I guess). That might have led to deeper thinking about why she's making music after all...
