Zilla 13,466
That's nothing, if anything I HOPE GeorgiaΒ is watching because $600 is a slap in the face and it's clear the GOP doesn't want to go higher. If you're already in the hole, $600 is a drop in the bucket, a big huge empty bucket. Won't even touch the bottom. I'm hoping the $2000 goes through but the way the GOP is right now, good luck. πΈ'π π πππππ πππ πππππ’ πππππ ππππ ππ ππππ.

That's what we call it in Canada I just assumed you guys called it the same Β And yeah I suspect that's a very common problem. Ppl earning less but not fully unemployed so they don't qualify for the standard unemployment benefits Β Same happened here in Canada. In the end they did a new program called CERB to include more ppl ($500 a week) cuz too many ppl just didn't qualify for the regular EI Β But even that didn't account for every situation. I lost my job in early February right before covid shutdowns (but not related to covid the timing was a coincidence) and I only got 11 weeks of benefits because unemployment was at a 40 year low in my region when I lost my job Β Literally within 2 weeks of my loosing my job everything started slowing down cuz of Covid and then by March we were in a full lockdown Β The fact that unemployment surged didn't matter. The number of weeks your entitled to is determined at the time you loose your job and claim benefits and the fact that the economy shut down right after doesn't change that... And to top it off since my job loss had nothing to do with Covid-19 I didn't qualify for that $500/week CERB benefit either Β Long story short I had to scramble to find anything cuz I was in debt on top of that. Fortunately I got lucky and I did find a job that pays decently (more than my old one) right before my EI benefits expired Β Yeah, no. For us, it's just unemployment and it's not even guaranteed. My current job isn't paying for anyone who has covid or has been in contact with someone who has had covid, and it's messing everyone up, because again, some of these people have kids, so they don't wanna go weeks without pay, so they show up with covid, and once hr finds out, the whole warehouse shuts down, without pay. It's annoying. I'm tired of living like this. I'm looking at other jobs rn that don't have more than +400 employees so I don't have to live in fear that I'll be sent home without pay.Β

I hope things get better for u Β I somewhat know what it's like to struggle due to covid cuz I had a close to 3 month period where I was desperate and in debt and didn't know what to do Β But even then I didn't have it as bad as some people cuz I was able to move back in with my parents. I still had to pay my debt bills, my car and a course I was taking at the time but at least rent and food my parents had covered for me in that situation
JusKeepBreathin 19,311
He didn't cave. Steve Mnuchin was at the negotiating table fighting for $600 on behalf of the president when the bill was being written.Β This was some ridiculous childish bullshit.Β I'm glad the Republicans look foolish but let's not pretend Trump didn't want the $600 in the first place.Β "Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." -Martin Luther King Jr.
