Michael at #1 makes sense depending upon the metrics you’re weighing this list by. He was an incredibly versatile vocalist both in his prime and later years (regardless of what he may or may not have done, legally speaking). Idk how they measured this, but Michael appearing on it isn’t that surprising to me. Tbh Madonna being here is a bigger shock as she’s a good singer but not someone I’d rank incredibly highly.

I personally am not a  Michael fan. I think a lot of this list is based on influence so I can understand why they put him as #1 though

Joanna F*cking Newsome! Look, I like a lot of her music but wtf. Same with Madonna, Dylan, etc.....

I hope this is based on sales, impact, etc. and not simply vocals. And yeah, it sucks Gaga isn't there but it's even more bizarre legends like Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe aren't on the list. Elvis ranked at #45 is insane, too.

This is actually disrespectful :rip:

Leaving Gaga aside, I can't believe they have Florence Welch and not Chuck Berry on the list....and Elvis ranked at #45.

Thank you @BUtterfield 8 for sharing the source.

This list is a complete mess. Not sure what criteria they used, but the distribution makes no sense.

If it’s about greatest singers, Gaga should be on top of the list for sure.

MJ has never been known for his vocals, and I would actually place Gaga higher than him.

If we were talking about ‘Greatest Performers of All-Time’, then yes, MJ and Madonna would be at the top.

This seems just a random distribution with no set criteria on how they arrived at this ranking.

in my mind to use the word "singers" means singing ability rather than song writing or whatever. michael jackson to me was not that great of a singer. neither is madonna, or bob dylan lol. or dolly parton... i could pick through this list, but if it really is about singing ability alone, this list is horrible.

Madonna????? :ladyhaha:

I don’t understand this obsession with minimising Madonna’s singing abilities! She’s no vocalist, and that’s not what she has built her career, cultural impact and achievements on, but she has proved plenty of times she can sing.

And she is 90 in this mess of a list.

There are many others right at the top that you could claim are simply not the best singers of all time in a vocal ability sense. Just look at Johnny Cash, or Bjork - are they some of the best singers in a vocal ability sense? Absolutely not.

Completely agree with his. If this list is about singing ability alone, it makes no sense whatsoever.

I absolutely love Madonna but putting her in a best singers list? She had a very great vocal era in the 90's but she's far from being one of the best vocalists
