Which era had the best single choices, and which had the worst?

TFM is the best. It’s undeniable.

ARTPOP & Joanne had questionable singles choices.

Do What U Want (solo) should have been the lead, G.U.Y should have never been a single, Applause should have been the final single.

Joanne was just a MESS, PI is a great song but not single not even lead single worthy. The whole Million Reasons/A-Yo situation was a mess and it gave me PTSD from the whole Venus/DWUW situation.

Definitively TFM has the best single choices.

BTW is 2nd for me

TF 3rd, it has great singles but... Beautiful, Dirty, Rich isn't that great for me, maybe Paper Gangsta, but it's my opinion.

ARTPOP + Joanne 4th, they're OK.

Chromatica, well IDK for me it's good by now, I mean I would love any song of the album as a single by now it's between BTW & TF.

The Fame and Fame Monster were easily the best. Every single was perfect and could’ve had a few more tbh

Every other album, except Chromatica, has had at least on atrocious single choice. BTW -> Judas, ARTPOP -> DWUW, Joanne -> PI. All 3 fantastic songs that should never have been singles (and 1 should never seen the light of day)

Joanne was the worst tho. Very messy

out of the whole set of songs of which album, the fame had it right considering (and the fame monster for the most part)

what was done to btw, ARTPOP and chromatica is a sacrilege (specially ARTPOP, i just cant make my peace with it)

Best: TFM

Worst: Joanne (2 singles only? seriously?)

technically the thread is which era and we got Perfect Illusion, Million Reasons, A-Yo, The Cure and Joanne (WYDYTG?) during the Joanne era.

Economy

TF (not many other songs were single worthy other than Starstruck and BoysBoysBoys)

TFM had good singles too

Joanne was very questionable in my mind. I don't get how Perfect Illusion was the lead and how did we get only 2 singles :toofunny: (Chromatica so far has only 2 as well but we got the Covid-19 derailing plans excuse)

All the singles have been fine up until ARTPOP. DWUW and GUY weren’t bad choices, it’s just that the era was too far gone for them to do well. The only bad single choices she’s made are PI and SL. Also not releasing more singles for Joanne and chromatica were horrible decisions.

911 is sort of a single as all her promoted posts on social media state it as the third single, it's just the fact it never got sent to radios WW besides some European countries is what has confused so many of us in regards to it being a hardcore single. Imo if we get another hardcore single sent to radios WW from Chromatica, it will have to come from a reissue of the album of some sort.

Isn’t what makes it a single it being sent to radios WW? Ugh why is her team so confusing. I doubt a reissue is coming. I think 911 was the JW of chromatica. Just a video and not a single with the fan base being hella confused

honestly idk, I just know her promoted posts on IG and Twitter stated 911. was the third single but it had a messy rollout e.g no playlisting no radio support

i think TF/TFM were the only eras with near-perfect single choices, but i feel like even TF would've benefited from Starstruck as a single. Flo Rida and Gaga were huge in 2009, she could've bagged another #1.

BTW was almost perfect outside of Judas (although, as the song is getting appreciation in retrospect, and because there seems to be consensus it's one of her best songs, maybe it was a good choice after all) – but I feel like it was the song that really started to turn the GP against her.

With AP, R Kelly should not have been on that song, but there's no doubt in my mind that DWUW should have been the lead single. It remains her most obvious hit that got away.

I don't think the singles ever mattered for Joanne. Million Reasons and AYO were the only two with real potential to actually promote the album. DiC got hyped up because it was the only taste of pop on a country album; if it had been on any of Gaga's actual pop albums, nobody would've pushed it as a single.

// sidebar –

Her streaming numbers would be *so* different if she'd released these albums in the streaming era. If ASIB is already close to 3 billion, then I think it's safe to say that TF, TFM, and BTW would all be at between 4-5 billion (and I would bet that Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance, Telephone, and Born This Way would all have at least 2 billion streams each by now).
