I love it when people talk about dysphoria or intersexuality as if it was the most common condition ever. Do you have an idea of how many people are actually DIAGNOSED with those conditions?

diagnosis is actually one of the weakest metrics to observe when it comes to genuine dysphoria. the system that's built in many countries to help diagnose transgender and non-binary people with dysphoria are built by cisgender people, are drastically underfunded and in many cases, incredibly usless in illiciting actual diagnoses when they're actually necessary for someone's mental wellbeing. using diagnosis to measure dysphoria is like using statistics about the numbers of reported sexual assaults. it's a weak, innacurate figure that exists because of the system that's stacked against it.

We also forget how far we've come.  If you watch Friends, for example, that show was OBSESSED with gender.  It's cringe to watch now.

When I grew, this kind of thing was totally acceptable.  It even became a hollywood movie.

Well for starters, Sam doesn't have a profile here in GGD that it's active (at least that we know of) and the gays, of all people, should be aware of the importance of someone being mad on your behalf, since it helped us so much throughout history.

Thank god in my language, male, female, trans, cat, alligator, whatever, are all "it". I regularly mix up he and she in English even speaking with cis people, it seems so confusing to think of a person as a gender while talking about them at that moment.

It IS a **** up to misgender someone as big as Sam Smith when they're literally your coworker sort of. If you know enough about Sam Smith to talk about them, you know them enough to know their pronouns.

Pointing out someone's mistake and asking them to do better is WORLDS APARTS from cancelling them.

Friends is one of my favorite TV shows, but I agree. I actually wrote a pretty kick butt essay in graduate school about how Friends reinforces heteronormative culture  It got a B though

Sam is an entertainer and mistakes like this happen all the time on stage . Famous Peoples names get mispronounced talkless of pronouns that shawn may or may not have known about , my point is that sam smith probably isnt having  meltdowns over this so im not sure the outrage is warranted . He should personally apologise to sam tho

You see them as cispeople, I see them as specialists. If some countries have poor quality in service to people who actually have dysphoria, that's too unfortunate. Whoever, saying that people who actually study and spend their whole lives researching about this subject are the weakest source of analysis is dangerous cause it's science denial. Just like we mock people who think the Earth is flat.
