THIS IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM WITH THE RACIST MUSIC INDUSTRY AND THE COMMITTEES

The album is R&B-Pop, it could be nominated in all the categories without a problem.

Blinding Lights is more pop than R&B, while In Your Eyes is more R&B than pop

Those f-ckers just can't handle a black artist doing pop and being called POP

If anything i think their explanation kind of makes obvious the flaws of the system. If an album can be considered part of two genres it doesn't mean it doesn't deserve awards.
