a shift in gaga's personality

I'd be worried if she didn't change at all since the start of her career. She's matured, worked/is working through her personal issues, stopped using a lot/got sober, went from being a shiny new girl in pop to being a cultural icon, literally. I think she just stopped using her Gaga persona as a defense mechanism. She feels more human to me and in a better place.

She put out a record this year called Chromatica. It leans heavily into her struggle with mental health over the past few years. So there’s that.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

Gaga has sort of two modes: really laid back, chill, and nonchalant, and then serious, almost rigid (and let's be real, more cringy).

She flip flops, but I think depending on the situation. With that video of her in the camo, I think she tried using that more "serious" side of her, but also in some way wanted to "connect" with the camo, the beer, the pick-up truck, etc.

But she's also been more chill and nonchalant recently too. A lot of the Chromatica interviews we got, as well as Gaga Radio, showed a more laid back and more "human" side of Gaga.

She tends to be more serious when she talks about serious subjects, like sexual assault, politics, mental health, etc. But when she's talking about winning an oscar, or talking about working with her producers for her albums, etc., she's more open and care-free about it. I guess it just depends on the situation.

She suffers from anxiety and depressions, and will have good days and bad days just like everyone else. She's straight up said they last 2ish years have been very hard for her.

Also, her chronic pain. She might be feeling awful at any given point but still be trying to put on a brave face.

I know you're not trying to be judgmental, but remember that she's a human being, and she's not going to have one set never-shifting default "personality". She's always been dramatic and theatrical, and sometimes it's endearing and sometimes it might seem a little stiff, but that doesn't seem strange to me

Also, this thread comes up literally every few months. I wouldn't worry too much about a "shift in Gaga's personality."

There were some discussions about that. I've also noticed that right after her countess performance. I hope she's happy and healthy rn.

Some of y’all are very defensive :ohno:

i, too, struggle with my mental health and I know how it can affect your behavior. And of course I don’t expect gaga to forever be the same person, I just wanted to point out the fact that she feels a bit off in recent years because I felt nobody mentioned it. I missed whatever earlier discussions that apparently occurred about this

Yes exactly even just her screaming in concert. It used to be more natural

Yes I've noticed. I guess it's maybe because of emotional changes she's gone thru with her life events over the last 4-5 years

her personality did not shift, i think during ASIB she was super emotional for many reasons be it her personal life, her getting her first real big break in movies with 2 oscar noms. so she stuck with the "hundred people in a room" script probably to get over some of those nerves.

She definitely has lost that gritty edginess that she once had. But that comes with age. We tend to lose our fearlessness. It also has a lot to do with her meds and that she was on illegal drugs back then too.

Okay I agree with the OP.  Despite loving Gaga, I can't help but notice these things too.  I'll never forget the time I saw her in Atlanta and she was trying to speak to us with a southern accent 😩.  And the ASIB era of her career made me legit wonder if she was okay (which, i guess as we see now, she wasn't).

I think she's incredibly conscious about how others percieve her.  Every bit of her public behavior and presentation is intentional.  So when she tries to act "down-to-earth girl next door", we kinda see through it, in a performance kinda way.

I guess to summarize how I feel: Gaga tries hard to relate to the working class milieu and, in that process, curates it like a performance.  I don't think it's BAD, I just think she may be spending a **** ton of time with other rich people.

Think about yourself. Didnt u act a bit different than years ago? Because if someone were to compare me in 2014 vs me in 2019 they would write the same long post. And in between those years ive went thru severe mental illness, shocking grief in family, huge difficulties professionally, depression, isolation & psychological abuse.

The more you live on Earth the more u go thru things the more u change. Some evolve to be more confident some start feeling more vulnerable and u see it in their behavior it's normal. Gaga has went through physical illness, relationship problems, and mental health issues etc... Pls bear that in mind and be kind

A deeper voice and a Malibu house = / = a shift in personality.

Gaga might have her struggles but she’s the exact same person at heart as at the start of her career. Let’s leave this discussion in the early Joanne era where it belongs.
