The US is not the UK. We have a two party system here and if people want a Republican they can have one, there’s no need for a diet Republican

The UK is also a 2 party system. Other than a coalition glitch, its Labour or Conservative. The most successful prime minister we had was for the left wing party but was right-leaning.

Mass-appeal is how you win. Dreaming of ideology ain't it.

Appealing to the masses is something corporate Dems haven’t been successful at. John Kerry lost to Bush, Hilary Clinton lost to Trump and Biden didn’t perform as strongly as anticipated against Trump. The moderate Dems just can’t reliably win. Obama was centrist, but he ran on hope and change in 2008.

The reason Biden won at all was due to not being too left wing. Thats literally it.

Where is the proof of this statement? 😂

I’m sure it had nothing to do with all of the Democratic primary candidates endorsing him, a terrible president and his failure leading to 240k deaths or the media favoring him.

And to add: He didn’t win by a landslide WITH record voting turnout.

“When we vote, we win!” - Do we?

Looks like he will flip 2 states, which won’t even determine if he will be president, he already reached 270 without them.

Dems lost House seats.

The Senate is a toss up.

Hillary Clinton LOST.

Sorry, but we just ran a candidate who had the most aggressive campaign in a long time in terms of trying to appeal to Republican voters (Republicans at DNC, The Lincoln Project, Reaching across the aisle rhetoric, Cindy McCain's endorsement) and we got LESS Republicans to vote against Trump than in 2016. Time to hang this strategy up for the coming years.

Tbh if I were American and registered Democrat, I'd be all in for a 3rd run by Bernie. I wouldn't expect him to get the ticket and wouldn't bitch about it later but I would thank him for it since it'd most likely push center Democrats into adapting a more progressive agenda to get Bernie's base.

Then again, Bernie is getting older each day and I think the guy deserves some peace for all he done for Americans.

It's baffling how similar US politics has gotten to one in my own country so I don't see any reason to not share this: pandering to right DOES NOT work for center-left parties. It's like buying iPhone se when you have means to get the pro max. If you want a "right-wing" president, you wouldn't vote for the one that all the LGBTI+, immigrants and POC vote for. Same thing happened over here and most Left-wingers stayed home, refusing to vote for a guy with a fundamentalist statements in his past. The funniest part was, after the elections he ditched the opposition party and became an MP for the authoritarian government :ladyhaha:

Honestly, if Bernie is still healthy and up for the job, I would vote for him. Especially if he has a strategy and a young VP and cabinet. I would prefer a younger progressive, but Bernie is the one with a movement behind him.

I'm sure it had nothing to do with him running against the worst politician in 21st century in the middle of a global economic downturn + pandemic :haroon:

Oh trust me I'd have no issue voting for a 100 year old Bernie when I move to the States and neutralize in 10-15 years but after all the shenanigans Democrats went through to make sure he doesn't get the candidacy, I'm content with his role in introducing some kind of a Scandi style social democracy to the party. I don't think any progressive candidate that worked with him and endorsed by him would have hard time to possess the same grassroots movement. What I feared most about his possible presidency was if he had to work with a Rep-majority senate. The media and corporate Dems would not hesitate a SECOND to put all the blame on him to portray "far-left" (:ladyhaha:) cannot deliver.

I believe for the first time some sort of a social democracy (correct me if I'm wrong, maybe FDR can be credited for this as well?) found itself a platform in mainstream US politics and we have Bernie to thank for it. The guy done his duty in my eyes... But yeah my opinion doesn't really matter as I'm not American and have no real information about the US politics :huntyga:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

We literally had Elizabeth running in the same year and y'all called her a snake. Bernie hardcore followers were personality stans. They weren't progressives.

That whole Chapo Trap House business and the 2016 version of it (which was a lot bigger than what we had in the primary earlier this year; hard to believe Iowa was this year with everything that has happened since then) were pretty dang disgraceful, but it was only a small and loudmouthed slice of Bernie “supporters”. Most Bernie supporters delivered and voted for Hillary in 2016. Unfortunately, the margins in PA/WI/MI were just small enough that the small number of Bernie supporters still not on board with Clinton gave us four years of Trump. :(

This time around, pretty much everyone has disavowed the whole Chapo Trap House thing. Bernie was smart and got behind Biden early and we had a unified front to get Trump out. We’re going to need that unity moving forward. Those Trump voters aren’t going to disappear, and we’re going to need to be behind Biden in GA in January so we can get the senate back, then be fully behind Biden in 2022 so 2010 doesn’t happen again.

It is not Bernie's fault Trump won. Hilary didn't pull in Independents, she did poorly with white women, and her campaign was focused on being the more moral candidate than Trump. None of that was enough, and she insulted black voters along the way who tried to get her to apologize for her prior statements about them being super predators.

I’m not going to get in to a big argument over why 2016 went down the way it did. We need to be unified moving forward. I’m not worried about 2016. I’m worried about the GA runoff election which can make the senate blue in January. I’m worried about the Trumpists coming out in greater force than the left and taking back the house in 2022. I’m worried about continued gerrymandering and voter suppression.

Right now, we need to pray that this entire “rigged election” nonsense doesn’t result in a civil war (unlikely, but a possible contingency). We need to pray that Trump doesn’t do anything stupid and destructive during his lame duck session. Then we need to do what we can to help make the senate blue again: All eyes on Georgia.

Trumpism is the enemy here. It’s still a thing. It will still be a thing in 2022 and 2024.

This "party unity" thing only ever goes one way, and we're not doing that anymore. You're trying to shift the blame from the most unpopular candidate in the history of the Democratic Party with a billion dollar campaign losing in 2016 onto a podcast (:air:) and to an infinitesimally small portion of Sanders supporters. WAY more Clinton supporters voted for McCain in 2008 and Obama still won in a landslide.

So, no. The left isn't going away, progressives aren't going away, and we're not going to just roll over and let the establishment screw us again. It's time for the Democratic Party to unify around the left, or they're going to keep underperforming the way that we just saw a few days ago.
