Just keep on insisting because that's how you create the neutral "arena" needed for a progressive and civilized debate. I know people are upset about Biden over Bernie but Biden won because of the black vote and the black vote is not hard left it's left moderate. That's how he won the primaries and the national election. We won on a moderate ticket. Those are facts. But now is the time to keep advocating for more progrssives solution within the Democratic party. It's not the time to attack them. People are literally dancing in the streets. I've been celebrating since election night, and I try and have a nice discussion with you, I'm not in any high horse, what are you talking about? I'm talking about shifting the Dems' base further to the left, which means PoC, although they're now left moderate, can be shifted further left through dialogue and grassroots campaigns, which will in turn also influence the party's platform. I'm not against Biden by any means, I'm just offering a plan to create a context for dialogue. Former First Lady of the United States. Now card-carrying member of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Luc 4,776
IMO, 'healing the country' and 'unifying the country' do not and cannot go hand in hand with a complete depolarization of society. Unity is extremely rare (9/11 comes to mind) and never lasts long. I'm saying this as someone who has supported Biden and tried to convince leftists to support Biden since South Carolina by the way. If polarization is inevitable (politics is politics, there's no way around it), what should happen is that America should get polarized along different lines, lines that are less dangerous. Racial polarization is dangerous, as is polarization around other unchangeable, deep aspects of one's identity. Economic polarization isn't dangerous, and takes the heat off of minorities by switching the conversation to something completely different. Besides, economic polarization is by far the most fruitful electorally for Democrats and by far the most productive policy-wise for Democrats. I also personally believe that economic polarization takes the heat off of minorities in society. Try to pass a very moderate tax hike on billionaires' wealthĀ as first act in congress of his presidency, and let Republicans take the heat for refusing to support it when all eyes are still on them. Let them defend it, and let poorer Trumpsters be disappointed that these are the guys they voted in. I know this isn't going to happen, but progressives who voted for Biden are entitled to ask him to pursue the programme he was elected with. The US won't ever change if Democrats don't fight tooth and nail like RepublicansĀ do to get what they want, even when there's a Senate majority against them.
