Now that Ava Max released her debut album...

So now that Ava Max released her highly anticipated debut album, many've been waiting for it to discuss:

Do you think 'Heaven & Hell' will guarantee her a comfy place among the other Main Pop Girls?
Is it still not enough, hoping her sophomore release will be bigger?
Or do you see her go along the lines of Jessie J, Bebe Rexha, Rita Ora, etc. meaning: decent number of sales/streams but little impact yet loyal fan base?

Please don't make this a mess, or else...

No. She need to have #1 hits and albums on charts and winning awards that matters to even be considered.

I don't write the rules.

It's a cute album albeit having some fillers (what album doesn't?). But she needs another era and album before being considered a new main pop girl, like Dua, she's gotta find her authenticity which will come then.

She's not there yet but she absolutely has the potential. Heaven & Hell is a very solid effort and blows other pop girls' debuts out of the water (not Gaga ofc :ally:)

I listen to her on a daily basis :music:

Oh, no, she's certainly not a 'main pop girl'.

The numbers do most of the talking - but so does her 'artistic' style.

It's not real or uniquely her yet.

It might be, in time, but I can't see it.

'Heaven & Hell' is nice I'm waiting for Deluxe Edition. She is not main pop gurl yet but maybe in the future... Who know?

I think it’s gonna depend on her sophomore album. That’s what really solidifies a stars footprints. Look at Katy, Gaga, Dua...yes they were starting to get big recognition during their first albums, but Teenage Dream, TFM, and FN are the albums that showed the world that they weren’t one trick ponies and got them massive critical respect.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

No, I personally don’t see the “WOW” factor yet. She made a cute pop album, but it was more of a “Yours Truly” type impact when she needs a “Problem” hit to be considered a “main pop girl”.

Not saying she won’t get there eventually but this wasn’t it.

I'll go with the second option. She's very talented and does great pop songs. But people - especially pop fans - were expecting too much from her after SBP became a smash hit and the comparisons between Gaga began. So no, I don't think she's becoming a main pop girl now. But who knows if she might become one in the future :yennefer:

And to explain it a little better, I mainly think she's not a main pop girl yet because:

1. She does a kind of pop music that doesn't sell as it has once in the past. And in 2020 it's very hard to have huge pop hits when Hip Hop/trap are dominating the charts. She could've been a huge success, even becoming a main pop girl if she blew up years ago (I know she's been trying for a few years to build a career of her own) with this kind of music. But now, she's staying (at least for now) in the category the OP mentioned, not having huge hits but a loyal fanbase.

2. She's very stigmatized with the whole Gaga comparison thing. And I'm saying that because I myself compared her many times to Gaga, and now I realize what that can cost an artist. It obviously wouldn't be different, as they look kinda similar visually talking. Even Gaga herself was compared many many times to Madonna at the beginning of her career, as we all know. But in that case, she succesfully handled the comparisons (not saying Ava hasn't, as she said before Gaga is a huge inspiration for her, as Madonna was for Gaga), building her own artistic persona and a name of her own. She became the Lady Gaga. Not just a pop girl nor a Madonna copycat. She presented her own vision, she made many hits, left her mark and proved herself as one of the greatest artists of the new millenium.

And I'm not saying that Ava isn't an artist or that she's a Gaga copycat or anything like that. I'm just stating what's obvious: it's not for everyone to handle this lot of pressure and still keep yourself reaching the high levels of expectation people are putting into you.

Anyways, that's it. I just wish her the best

No. People outside of pop forums literally don't know who she is. Yes, she has had some moderate success with her singles and yes everybody knows Sweet But Psycho, but if you go out to the street and ask random strangers who sings SBP, nobody will be able to tell you.

Plus, her marketing her career around her #MaxCut is so cringey and if she keeps on relying on that haircut to be recognisable, I see red.
