They just just stick to making 1-season series with good plot/characters. All this milking/cancelling is so opportunistic.

I'm so upset about this, Glow was one of my favourite shows :fatcat:

The fact that they had one episode filmed and had to stop will forever haunt me :bradley:

This newer guy that has been running Netflix in recent years is terrible and needs to be fired. He cancels EVERYTHING. He is literally ruining Netflix. The shows are good, but who cares when they will just get cancelled quickly and AFTER a renewal?

I need a Julie and the Phantoms renewal STAT!

Very fitting to the story of the show, their shows getting cancelled over and over again. Honestly, I didn't like season 2 that much, but season 3 was fun again. I wasn't mad about it them finishing the show, but just to pull the plug mid season is really a big f*ck you.

I wouldn't put The Witcher in this category. The difference is The Witcher has growth potential since they only have the one season so far. I imagine that Netflix is tightening the pursestrings globally as they make pushes into India and stuff amid a pandemic

It sounds like the show got a narrow renewal and all the COVID expenses caused it to get cancelled. I'm not sure how filming is done now, but I'm pretty sure I read Locke and Key is resuming production and will be in production until next year. Which means there must be a lot of measures that drag out and increase the cost of shows.

Honestly I think you’re right. Unrelated but one of my favorite sitcoms The Goldbergs resumed production in late August and they had some very interesting setups. Pexiglass barriers between the seats and not all cast can be on sets at the same time unless the scene calla for it. All costumes were provided in plastic bags like you would see at the dry cleaners and the crew is around in masks and face shields. It’s going to be interesting to see what the finished products look like for shows that are back in production now.

And let's remember that Part 5 was already written as the Final season two and was called Witch War (and will now be released as a comic book that will end the series)

The previous guy was the one who signed for Stranger Things, Sense8 and The OA... Only ST survived...

The new guy is not focus on bringing original shows like the other one was or interested in bringing new and independent creators . He just wants to bring hit shows

Who's the new guy and when did he join Netflix? I'm seeing Ted Sarandos as the Chief Content Officer and it looks like he's been in that role a while.

True! Sarandos is the guy who created the first model netflix would use when they would produce original shows/movies : buy all the rights and at least 2 seasons of the show. This is the model they used for ST and The OA. He believed in creating a large fan base for each show and then the algorithm would redirect those fan bases towards other shows. He also believed in independent artists and less famous creators.

I do know that they did hire another guy who changed their algorithm and the model they use. They now buy all the rights of a show, guarantee one season at least and if the show brings a certain amount of NEW subscribers, then they renew. OR they hire a famous producer/writer to make a certain amount of shows, preferably shows that are easy to watch and target a larger audience.

I'll find the name of the guy

Marc Maron (who plays Sam) has called on Netflix to allow them to do a movie to properly wrap things up.

Netflix is the new Fox where they cancel shows almost every other season. That’s crazy.
