SwissMonster 29,118
So, as some of you noticed, Movie Studios pushed back again A LOT of big movie releases (Dune, No Time To Die, WW, Venom 2, Black Widow). I can’t help but wonder WHY the hell they are doing this?? Tenet made an incredible 250M$ in box office in a month! Sure with Theaters open in the US it would’ve earned another 100M$ but on a regular movie scale it isn’t a flop at all, especially given the times we live in! It only is a box office “flop” because of the movies high production costs. Movie Theaters aren’t less fuller then before tbh. I was at the cinema 3 times now and it just seemed, normal? Sure there are corona regulations of having at least 1-2 seats between the next group but honestly, movie theaters are never full (besides a first week maybe) anyways? Also US Movie studios have to stop to focus on the US in this time. They can release a movie in one part of the world and at a later point in the US. Its not like everyone will try to find it on the internet. Also a lot of “illegal” streaming platforms had to “close” anyways because of the lack of new movies. Last but not least, corona will go nowhere next year! So if thats what they are hoping for, they are dead wrong. All in one I really, really wonder what movie studios are thinking? I understand they pushed back all those movie at the beginning if the pandemic. But now I just don’t understand it. The hype for some movies is truly gone. Cinema goers and film fans WILL go to the cinema. What are your thoughts? I personally can’t understand it. Is it because of the uncertainty of US cinemas? pachinko 10,334
"With no end in sight to the coronavirus pandemic, theaters have had to deal with dwindling box office numbers. Spooked by Tenet's performance at the US box office, Disney removed all but three of their major releases from the 2020 release calendar. The 25th Bond film, No Time to Die, followed soon after. This left only two major releases for the remainder of the year: Dune and Wonder Woman: 1984. Those two were set to release a week apart at the end of December, an odd move considering they're both Warner Bros. properties, so many speculated more delays were imminent." Stanley Digaga 975
Tenet did correct numbers because it was pretty much the only new movie in theater, but if every studio start to release again there won't be enough audience for everyone I think. xoxo Craig 55,649
They should release their movies on streaming services/DVDs/other formats instead of waiting for people to go into a cinema. End Racism Now

I see it much more as a sign that people are willing to go back to the cinemas. A lot of cinemas lowered prices and if people wanna see two movies they will go watch both. I find it so strange that the US matters so much to the Studios eventho they could just release those movies at a later point there SwissMonster®️ - Creating controversy since 1999

I personally prefer to sit in a movie theater. That is a whole other feeling. Also this would ruin the cinemas once and for all, and with that a big part of movie culture. As a movie fan I find it sad to imagine the see future generations not knowing what a movie theater is SwissMonster®️ - Creating controversy since 1999

But you are right. It kinda is funny to me, cause the reason they wait is to release them in cinemas, eventho they would have these solutions. Which means (at least to me) that movie studios hold onto movie theaters. Which is so dumb cause not only they harm themselves by waiting but also the theaters they try to protect SwissMonster®️ - Creating controversy since 1999

Bradley 58,890
because not every movie can guarantee the success of Tenet. Warner and Nolan were very insistent in promoting it like a regular movie as if the pandemic were not happening, and it worked out for them. But we can't guarantee the results will be replicated for other movies you mentioned, especially when there are huge risks of investing marketing costs into it.
