Harry I'm not sure, the only radio hits he has are Adore You and Watermelon Sugar. Both songs were big on streaming too.

Maroon 5 on the other hand...

They shipped it, but it got shipped back

Funny how all the artists whose haters scream, “payola!”, “inflated!!” And “Artificial success!!!” such as Cardi B and Gaga are nowhere to be found on this list. Truly an L for them OGH and OCH :lmao:

The only Dua song I’ve ever heard was Hallucinate, so I’m not surprised.

Some of these names really don't surprise me as I've never seen them as chart monsters, not in the US or UK, they definitely can't sell an album in huge numbers and their touring sales are basically non-existent, yet they always seem to be heavily promoted and bigged up as big sellers and so relevant. Even though artists who can chart and sell much better don't get this level of PR. The story of how Ellie Goulding's cover of River went to #1 in the UK last year was scandalous. It wasn't available on any download or streaming platform, existing exclusively on Amazon Music and YouTube. The experts said it reached the top based on "lean back" streams and because Amazon put the song on their Christmas playlists on Alexa devices. Whenever anyone said "Alexa, play Christmas songs," Ellie's cover of River was played on that playlist and imagine how many people uttered this sentence on the final week before Christmas...It was a truly bogus #1. I never even knew she put this song out and the song had barely any traction on YouTube and still doesn't. And it even got the honour of being the last #1 of the decade. I hate it when songs that reached the top due to unfair reasons end up creating records and getting honours.

Whats funny is Gaga does these things without payola, which just makes me think that with a tiny bit of it she would absolutely smash everyone

Definitely not surprised about a lot of these. I think it was obvious for Shawn and Ellie in particular. Panic! surprises me because I feel like I don’t hear them on the radio much. Can the radio metric be banned from chart tabulations now?

You don’t need payola when you have a massive fanbase :vegas:

A lot of these Gen Z artists are more about image, promo and under the table deals than they are raw talent and passion. They are heavily, heavily manufactured and have zero personality outside of being an artist.

I felt like even though this was always a thing, during Gaga’s reign artists always had a personality and it wasn’t as evident that they were just pushed as a ‘product’ the way they are now. Makes it hard for me to get into the new music scene.

Literally this? All these new artists are simply products with no personality. They're made to sell and have no authenticity.

Sure she could smash with payola but she doesn't need or want it. She's Lady Gaga, not some act from Tumblr with a #1 fan demographic of 12-15 year olds. :billie:
