Westerners should be angry about their home countries bombing Muslim countries not Rihanna using a damn song lmao. Worry about the deaths and massacres the west does to Muslim countries.

Also people not knowing the difference between a Hadith and a Quran verse but yet wanna be angry for no reason. Pls.

Ok just like cultural appropriation the context and the artist invoking the culture need to be put into question.

I dont have enough knowledge on Islam or the Hadith verses or what purposes it served this show so i’mma shut my mouth on Rihanna’s case.

However many people brought Gaga - Judas up. I think this case is interesting, because the Easter release was undoubtedly a PR move to harness publicity- which meant it was supposed to offend. Regardless, the song and video by themselves are not. The metaphor requires them to portray Biblical figures and icons. Besides, Gaga grew up Catholic so she’s not any outsider that happens to use this imagery because it’s cool.

Apparently we have new content for your Anti-Racism thread with some comments on here @Twitter

Once again, religion has nothing to do with the colour of skin. I can be a black Christian, a white Muslim etc. It's about the book not the people, if anything I feel sorry for people indoctrinated into religion, they are the victims.

I’d personally live for a song paraphrasing the Bible with gay black trans men lipsyncing to “thou shalt not kill” multiple times or something like that.

I lived for a Brazilian trans activist on Jesus drag sticking a crucifix up her butt. She got under fire for that and many death threats, but she probably already got used to those prior to her performance.

I honestly believe religion (not spirituality or faith) does more harm than good in today’s society, especially for queer people...I think more people are mortified about drag performers doing their thing while that track is playing, as opposed to the track itself.

I mean, it can probably be very offensive to some islamic people but most people really don’t care and that’s why she won’t be canceled

I am not talking about those who are neutral (those who don't care) but those who are not the main concerned but for some reason think they can tell the targeted people how they should feel and react 'cause that's simply disrespectful... and I didn't even mention repercussions!

Can I say the same for Non Binary people wishing to use specific pronouns? Or trans people that want to be considered a different gender? Or black folk like myself who really don’t like being called the N word. For some people their religion is a big part of their identity and that should be respected! We all know that it’s a sensitive subject. But it’s wrong to generalize and say “Islamic people are too sensitive” is ridiculous.

Yes to non binary people requests. No for trans and black folk. Religion is source of most evil in the world and I will never have an ounce of respect for it. I mean, it’s literally brainwashing when you actually think about it. Me believing in Pokemon is as legit as any other religion. :smh:

Your username is very similar to a Persian name so idk you deal but, man, get over yourself.

Muslims are not being sensitive when they ask people not to depict Mohammed or recite Hadith out of context. You are being sensitive whinging about someone else's religion.

Lmao, do I need to remind what happened when a caricature of Muhammad appeared on Hebdo’s cover? :smh: If y’all don’t think that’s overly sensitive...

You’re talking to a person who is originally from an Arab country, and there’s several of us on here. We’ve voiced our opinion about how religion can be critiqued and used artistically. No one asked you to jump and be the defense attorney here on behalf of anybody. This outrage culture is so toxic.

I was just about to say this. I'm from an Arab country (but I was raised Christian so that's different) BUT my friends who were born and raised Muslim and who still live in Muslim environments just heard about this too and they literally couldn't care less. They're actually bopping to the song :toofunny:

This. The rights of queer, trans and women are more important than some made up story that apparently needs to be respected at all times no matter the cost to queer people or women. Good left leaning people are increasingly defending religious freedom over actual human rights issues.

It's disrespectul but a part of me wonders since religion is all about the artform, creating stories and books, creating music if sampling it is simply not just sampling another piece of art. Of course it's always going to be disrespectful because religious people dont see it as art, so my view on it is irrelevant in the end but I just think if you see it on the outside perspective that it doesn't hold any real meaning. For some it's sacred, for some it's not, and the reality is that it's not sacred, it's just a song about a book that has no evidence of it being written by God because we don't know if there's a God. Before anyone jumps on me, of course it's direspectful and pretty risky to do this. Religion is taboo and always will be

For some hadith is sacred though, for some moderate muslims not so much

You don’t have to respect religion, but you should respect someone when they ask you not to disrespect their religion. Period.

Pennywise

Well, as a gay person in a largely Muslim country, I can only say that Islam brought nothing but pain and misery on me and my country, so I don't think I have anything positive to say on this topic :vegas:

Not that Christianity or any other religion would be different anyway :bear:

Thankfully my family has always been mostly secular and/or atheist :tony:

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.
