Horrible... but keeping and maintaining clean, filtered drinking water will be a challenge in the coming decades.  I hope people in Houston can afford bottled water for a while.

I still wouldn't risk it. What if u accidentally take a breath in while drinking or by slim chance an amoeba stays stuck in ur mouth in the wetness than u inhale etc

The amoeba doesn't literally eat your brain, but it does travel up to the brain where it can cause inflammation which is very often lethal.

Most people become infected with it by coming in contact with it in fresh water while swimming and accidentally snorting water. It was never believed that you were at risk merely by drinking water, though..

Also, PSA: Don't use untreated tap water in your neti pot/nasal irrigator. People have died from this amoeba when using  unboiled tap water in their nasal irrigators.
