It’s so f*cking crazy to me to think this is how Madonna stans felt when Gaga crashed into the pop scene, because to me, being as honest and objective as I can be, she is doing LITERALLY a parody of Gaga.

I don’t want to hate. seriously. I have no intention to drag her. I don’t feel threatened, or have any intention to reach. I just really really feel, in my gut, that she is doing a Lady Gaga impersonation.:selena: Why?!

I mean, if she just flat out admitted it, I wouldn’t mind AT ALL. She’s cool and I like her. It’s just that it’s so jarring how determined she is to deny the fact that she is imitating Gaga. Gaga ALWAYS wore her references on her sleeve. She declared very early on that her whole career was an ode to David Bowie. She constantly pointed out Madonna as her inspiration. Ava should just be honest about what she’s doing.

:fatcat:Honestly I think I HAVE been paying attention. Like I said, this is coming from a place of genuine curiosity, not spite. But for the sake of good-intentioned conversation, I followed your advice and did a double check of the latest she has said. This is the most direct reference I could find:

"A lot of people compare me to her, and she's incredible by the way, she's an artist of a decade right so you can't say anything bad about her. I think a lot of people compare me to her because I have blonde hair and I make pop music, which is so weird. People shouldn't compare women that much I mean why do people compare women, but I get it, it's an easy thing to do but I see myself as myself so it's weird, I gained a lot of inspiration growing up from a lot of pop idols and I feel like everyone is in me, everyone I listened to growing up."

I hadn’t read this before, and it only validates my original post. I find this downright petty and offensive. Like, feigning indignation? Trying to turn it into a red-herring of ‘women get unfair comparisons’? This is EXACTLY what I mean. Sorry, but It’s completely dishonest to me.

also this discussion starts to feel slightly off topic so I’ll leave it at that.

There's more than enough room for more than one blonde pop singer.

I think the last thing people have a problem with is her haircolor.

It's just a figure of speech. You get my point.

I feel like there’s nothing to admit and nothing to really be pressed about. Ava is doing her own thing in a way that is very reminiscent of Gaga. But Gaga really created a type of pop star that wasn’t the norm 10 years ago. The theatrics, the piano the unconventional choices for vocal delivery are things that Ava has in common, but I don’t think it’s a 1-to-1 deal of her trying to be Gaga. Gaga being successful doing what she did is just more of a way to open doors for acts like what Ava is doing now to be the norm. We also have no clue what Ava will be doing in a year or 2 from now. She’s a young artist with a lot of time to grow and come into her own in the business.

She sounded amazing, idk if it was live or not, don’t really care but I do think she needs to work on her stage presence and dancing. Especially if she does indeed lip-sync then there’s no excuse to not serve some choreo. But my problem is another one, she needs a stylist ASAP. I’m sorry, yes her looks are getting better but besides the Naked outfit and the white jacket one ( which was just ok, nothing special, every popstar wears it nowadays ), her outfits are a mess. That corset with the heart and sward has NOTHING to do with those ugly pants and those boots which omg someone please burn themmm I hate chunky boots ( yes including the ones Gaga wears nowadays ) like there’s NOTHING more atrocious then chunky platform boots omg my poor eyes. But no, on a serious note, I am happy for her, Naked is growing on me a lot, the album was a good release, but I want her to present herself as a serious artist visually as well. Because she has potential, but she needs a new stylist and to work on her choreo & stage presence.

Ava Max is talented, she is cute and has some really good pop songs . Its normally that new pop princesses come to the scence. Let's not be like Madonna fans back than and welcome Ava. She is the girl which represents the new zeitgeist and it's a honour for Lady Gaga how she influenced the pop world and also Ava Max. Let's be fair. When i'm honest, i love the song Naked + the video - it's really artistic and really good pop music and visuals.
