Were the fans responsible for Gaga's traumatic, depressing last 2.5 years?

I think the way some fans interact with her compound pre-existing struggles, but are not a direct source.

and the fact that it's situated in Las Vegas and she didn't visit anywhere else in the world.

I didn't even make this connection. I had originally just thought this was another strategic decision by her management, but what if she took the residency, in part, because she was experiencing these things? :wtfga:

Are y'all really sitting in here trying to justify the way you pick apart Haus Labs and her wigs by saying "she's too tough" to care about that, and that it "must be something else" simply so you can allow yourself to continue talking sh*t?

We for a fact saw how much she gets affected by fans opinions during Five Foot Two, and y'all still don't know how to just be a decent person and not spread negativity?

No wonder she is the way she is.

seems a lot of people missed the meta-commentary in ASIB where she told the grocery store worker it really wan't ok to be wanting a selfie.

Of course fans are responsible. Look at some of the posts/comments/threads made in here...some of you have no boundaries.

This I think is a consequence from many factors. One would be Gaga's mental issues and struggles since very early on. The sexual abuse was definitely a trigger point, since it was a record producer who did it. Then all the money hungry individuals who took advantage of her success and then abandoned her (Akon says hi). And then her broken hip, her addictions, everything was a contributing factor to a spiral and therefore a mental breakdown. Additionally, all the many things we don't know that happen in that corrupt music industry that are quite pervert and scary.

If anything, you could say the more extreme fans like those who broke into her home once were also a factor, or the people who treat her like an object and just take pictures of her.

People saying they’re allowed to “critique” HL aren’t critiquing it, they’re just bashing it with no basis because it’s something they don’t want. “It’s dollar store trash” “she’s such a sellout” “she doesn’t care about anything but money” “she’s just lazy now” etc aren’t criticism.

I think fans pushed her over the edge, but aren’t the reason she was so close to it to begin with

She knows what this fanbase says about her and how the same fans try to meet her and take photos with her. It must mess with her mind about who she can trust. There's a reason she cares about online kindness and refers to social media as "the toilet of the internet". We all need to do better as a fanbase and be more supportive. We should be cheerleaders for her and not critical of the decisions she makes. We are a big trigger for her. We make it so that she can't be herself and be comfortable with who she is because we say horrible things about her. We're just constantly chipping away at her and demanding more from her but what about her feelings and what she's going through? It's unfathomable to some of you that she is a real person with real feelings. You all want the Lady Gaga superstar and when she's back you don't realise how fragile she is and how close she is to falling again. Listen to the lyrics of Fun Tonight and Plastic Doll and try to take in what she is saying because you all only seem to care about how those songs are "fillers" or whatever. She's telling you a story about herself with Chromatica but you don't want to hear it. You only care about where it places in the charts and stupid Tik Tok challenges. :neyde:

Fans are part of it, not the main cause of it.

It's the GP, fans, breakups, fame, creativity block, health issues, not being able to travel the world and see her fans, vegas as a city can be very depressing and many other things.

I dont think it was specifically the fans, I mean she encouraged "the super fan".

In fact I think she explains it so well in Dope "been hurting low, from living high for so long" and in Fun Tonight "I'd do anything to numb the flame, guess I'm just on fire these days".

She's been on this knife edge of fame for so long, so high up, been treated like an object, like a commodity and a brand. People dont see her, they see outfits, hair, a savior. They don't see a human. People rely on Gaga to heal themselves, they stop seeing the woman behind all of that.

I think she probably has learned how to manage the negativity from fans over the years and it is much more than fan feedback driving her mental health. However, I think we as fans owe it to her to help her by not being so negative if we don’t like something she does. She is such a caring person and if her fans are a reflection of her we should treat her with the same dignity and kindness she strives to push into the universe.

This woman is an extremely talented person and leader in her own right. Be kind, be respectful, be supportive, be empathetic...to her. She gives us so much, think about that before the negativity comes out.

You are putting too much on fans. There are things that - no matter if they are "nice" or not - come with being a celebrity of THAT caliber, and crazy fans are one of those. It would be great if fans were more considerate, but we do not live in a perfect world.

A celebrity either has to distance themselves from the public eye, or take measures to ensure they do not come across fans/people like that. It is not on fans, it is on the celebrities themselves. Now of course Gaga seems to be more vulnerable mentally than most - not that I blame her - and it would be great if her fans would leave her alone, but then again, we do not live in a perfect world and you cannot blame fans for... exhibiting the behavior they are conditioned by decades of fan culture to exhibit. Especially considering these stars owe their fame and fortune to those fans.

Spoiler

Not all fans are horrible, though. I, for example, am horribly uncomfortable with asking someone for anything, which means I would never accost a celebrity in public unless they initiate conversation themselves. I don't even feel comfortable taking photos in a meet and greet I paid for. Like, I get all Avril and stay as distant as possible.

I'm not talking about the twitter stan culture though because that **** is ****ed :vegas:
