Trump calls for "patriotic education"

President Trump on Thursday said he would create a commission to promote "patriotic education" and announced the creation of a grant to develop a "pro-American curriculum." The move is largely political — a reaction to a growing push by some academics for schools to teach an American history that better acknowledges slavery and systemic racism.

In the speech, Trump decried what he said was a "twisted web of lies" being taught in U.S. classrooms about systemic racism in America, calling it "a form of child abuse." He reprised themes from a speech he gave in July at Mount Rushmore.

"Teaching this horrible doctrine to our children is a form of child abuse, the truest sense," Trump said. "For many years now, the radicals have mistaken Americans' silence for weakness. They're wrong. There is no more powerful force than a parent's love for their children. And patriotic moms and dads are going to demand that their children are no longer fed hateful lies about this country."

I mean, yeah, anything Trump says is just the opposite of what is really happening, but this is hilarious to me. American textbooks are inaccurate and paint a pretty portrait of America. We need to steer away from that, not promote it more.

I went on a few dates with a high school history teacher a while back who was very progressive and it gives me comfort knowing we are going to have more teachers like him to teach our youth as time goes on.

He is moving America closer and closer to a dictatorship and if he wins in November we all should be *extremely* worried.

It's been 4 years, and I still can't figure out how did this clown become the most powerful man in the world.

Guess cheating does take you far :yennefer: This world is unbelievable.

The US education system has been too patriotic forever anyway so I don't know how much more patriotic you can get without becoming a dictatorship.

When I was an exchange student in Michigan I was shocked that students have to pledge allegiance to America before the lesson starts. And this whole "America is the greatest country in the world" thing that they have going on and the brainwashing that they have been doing to make young people believe that America is perfect and it's ok to die for it, is already troubling as it is.

I'm glad I don't have to live there.

White men continue to fail upwards everyday, at every level. Very disheartening.

Come to Tennessee and read the text books being taught with in our schools here. Lmao. Idk what else can be altered to make it more patriotic other than “USA ISA ISA USA” x a trillion being printed. 😂

Great! Let's condition the American youth even more than they have been already.

Why not call them the "Trump youth" while youre at it, and put Jews, Muslims and gays in camps where they will be murdered, oh, and "build a wall", oh and remove womens rights. And one final thing  can he grow a Chaplin style moustache?

If only “patriotic education” were to have been available when he was a child, he probably would not have purposely dodged getting drafted.
