By that logic, the same third party voters could be said to have "taken" votes from Trump by not voting for him. There's no solution in blaming voters who were never in the party to begin with. 

well it depends on which third party you voted for, libertarians or the green party. if you voted for the green party in a swing state in 2016 then it is my belief that that was probably not the smartest thing to do in retrospect. and i say in retrospect because everyone thought hillary was gonna win up until she lost, so when i think about it, i really can't blame green party voters for 2016.

you're right in putting some of the blame on people who stayed home. that's pretty much never a good idea because you never know how things are gonna go and that was a hard-learned lesson in 2016. hopefully this year is different and i do expect there to be a larger turn out for democrats, but eh, i still think trump's gonna either eek out a victory in the electoral college or make something up and just not leave. (i really hope i'm wrong about either, particularly the latter, cause that would probably mark like the end of our democracy but yeah... that's where i'm at rn ).
