I know this can be a touchy subject on here and I'm not claiming it is or isn't. I'm just intrigued. Love that we have this stunning mainly BIPOC cast but I can also see the perspective of them being used as accessories. I'd love to hear a statement from the director and gain some more insight on the choice to use this kind of imagery. I did see someone Armenian-Indian on Twitter saying they felt deeply offended. I'm sure this is far from her intention but impact outweighs intention and as a POC I do have to wonder if a white artist in the US's idea for "connecting to humanity" is not necessarily the most informed -but again, she's smart as hell and I bet her and the director probably had conversations about all of this and I'd love some insight on this conversation.

Let's not get messy or rude or tell people what they think is offensive or not. People are allowed to be offended or "sensitive." I would like to hear primarily from my peers in the BIPOC community and just have genuine conversation, sharing thoughts. <3

omg  to me, a person that is not Armenian but born in a region called Armenia Minor with many Armenian art/architecture around, it's very flattering. I love how she chose to show the art and beauty of this part of the world with the rest of it. I don't see how it appropriates it when it clearly references and underlines it. It's "deeply offending" when Gaga does it but it'd be ok if Kim K did it? ok.

Y'all want the world to be a better place but can't even have the conversation? Shoutout to those of you who say "no" but can actually provide reasoning and contribution to a dialogue as opposed to just being upset at people being upset. Something like this does not kill art. Art is always a point of conversation from MANY intersections, this being one of them. We're not cancelling anyone (nor does cancel culture even truly exist) and this isn't about inciting drama. It's about analysis and learning. Gaga's mind is big. The director's mind is big. And art doesn't need to be over-explained (some also believe explanation of art is the death of art) but these are constructs we hold. As I mentioned, not every culture thinks of "appropriation" in the way we do in the US, which is precisely what I'm trying to lean into and explore. Not just "NO." I think it's beautiful that there are some elements of cultures that we can share and explore and celebrate but some things are sacred and have history, which is important to acknowledge and just simply be more informed about. I'm sure Gaga is informed and knowledgable but it's also good to digest art and analyze (especially those of us who might have a direct connection the work via culture, or are artists ourselves). This isn't inflammatory. This is art. This is what art does and powerful art is evocative and demands conversation.

Def don't see it at Cultural Appropriation. She clearly is citing things and its more appreciation than anything. I'm not trying to not to be biased because it's Gaga but I def think she did a great job in regards to this.

No cultural appropriation here. It's a quote. Obviously Gaga's character has an accident in front of theater were they just screened The Color of Pomegranates (spot the poster during the final scene). So she's in a kind of delirium moment and everythings happen just like in this movie. Some other quotations are taken from Jodorowsky's movie El Topo and The Holy Mountain. Kind a fun way to intricate dream and reality.

911 is finally a nice trigger to watch or rewatch this incredible masterpieces of surrealistic dream-reality !
