This is such an amazing clip. I really hope that the Gaga team has some kind of promo planned soon, because I still don't feel this era in full force. Aga Gydal 3,158 Posted September 22, 2020 Share Posted September 22, 2020 Loving all the little details I'm noticing after rewatching a few times: - 1st outfit: Dress resembles flesh cuts and a spill of blood on the ground. She was blindfolded as she was so split from reality at the time of the accident that she couldn't see. Hence taking the blindfold off as her vision starts taking shape. - Hand gestures: All the hand gestures in the first half represent her body being carried and touched by medics. The craning of the neck means they were checking for a pulse, hands over the mouth would probably mean the same (checking for breath), the strange angular body movements are them probably moving her body away from the collision. One could argue that she was actually performing all her injuries before the medics flew in (hands over eyes means unconscious, hands on neck means inability to breath, neck injury, etc.) - The first chorus: Choosing between the "doll" and the "diamond box", I'm guessing the doll represents fantasy while the box represents your reality consciousness, since the lyrics say she needs to keep her fantasies dormant due to the medication. There's a closeup of her putting the doll in the box, which immediately snaps to a scene of her dancing with the same hand shape of the doll, implying a dream sequence where she lets her fantasy run free. - Both the floating scene with the rose and the black bodysuit scene represent her dying before being pulled back to life. In her fantasy, she always saw herself dying in an artful, fantastical way, but the characters in the scene are preventing her from taking it all the way. Hence the tug back to earth in the first scene, and the pulling of the black curtain in the second. - In the "can you patch the line" scene, Gaga screams and sobs because she is being forced back to reality; she found a home in the fantasy but is no longer welcome. The priest medic snaps the box shut to show that reality has won out. - Gaga wakes up and immediately asks "did anybody die?" implying that she knows she caused the accident. Not sure if it means she knowingly tried to kill herself by riding into traffic, or if she was so removed from reality that she just panicked when she saw medics over her. Interesting that she opened with that concern though, which I think means she knew she was doing something that endangered others. Such an achievement. Definitely one of her best videos ever. At the end I said 'did you get it?' and she goes 'no' so I said to watch it again but she was like 'no it made no sense' so I insisted and said I'd point everything out. But the song is just not that great to be a single. It's just a transition moment that got attention on tiktok. It's not a song people want to hear on the radio or in their car constantly like Rain On Me or even Stupid Love. I'm not super surprised it's not getting big views on YouTube.
