It’s not as surface level as “dictatorship videos” — it’s about the fact that a literal Communist government currently committing abhorrent crimes with concentration camps is collecting info from other countries’ citizens under the guise of a “fun social media app”.  Any user here bragging about how this suddenly makes them way more interested in TikTok is being willfully ignorant of the true scope of what’s really going on here. 

Yes I have, but the point of my post was that Trump drew the line when people faked to attending his Rally with TikTok, but that the info collecting is in the same reason

TikTok, meanwhile, will be allowed to keep operating in the US through November 12, so existing users of the app will not be affected. But Trump’s decree is meant to force Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores — which means the service can’t add new users — and to prevent TikTok from updating the app for existing users.

What's buried in all of this is the implications of banning WeChat. WeChat is the lifeblood of communication and commerce in China now, and anyone who communicates with people in China or regularly travels to China is going to be significantly impacted by this. Even if you have problems with the Chinese government, this will affect Chinese Americans trying to communicate with family members and friends, as well as those of us who aren't Chinese and regularly communicate with people in China. (For example, I have people with whom I solely communicate via WeChat for work reasons.) I don't care about silly TikTok videos, but the banning of WeChat is another matter. 

(And yes, I already knew that WeChat is probably spyware.)

Shouldn't we ban Facebook then as its been used by Russia to interfere with our elections? Trump doesn't care that Facebook has just as many issues. It helps him. That makes the TikTok ban self-serving and political.

I'm not for Donald Trump or support anything he is about, however I feel that TikTok needs to be taken down, for many reasons.

They've also been accused of suppressing plus-size and creators of color, on top of all the spying. 

An American company is still trying to buy TikTok so idk why the ban would go through this week.

Alcohol is dangerous. Cigarettes are dangerous. Lots of things are dangerous but not banned because humans are allowed to make their own decisions. Plus, it's obvious that many of the people rejoicing for the banning of Tik Tok aren't doing so over security fears but because they just don't like the app.

Look I understand what many are saying and I'm not saying y'all are defending, but I've already said something similar, after what this app has done, is getting rid of this app like that bad? I know that's not what anyone is implying but aside from important things like spreading awareness through going viral, etc. I really don't feel any need of this app needing to stay and I'm aware of the majority who don't want this app because of its cringeness but for me it's more than that. Yes Facebook, Twitter, etc. are bad but like I'm talking about this app specifically. If this specific app is getting banned, is it really that bad if we ban this app that has done these following things? Does it really need to stay just because other apps that have done bad stuff too are still up? We don't need another one and it's not the end of the world if this gets banned. Everyone has already explained their thoughts and I agree but I also want to say how for me it's also like getting rid a portion of something bad, do you guys get what I'm thinking? :laughga::messga:
