Gaga tried way too hard to be controversial back then tbh and it resulted in her sometimes being less than considerate tbh

 

I never bought that statement she gave on Ellen about the meat dress being about standing up for your rights

 

That may have been her "artistic interpretation" but I think it's obvious her main motivating factor in wearing meat was attention and controversy

To agree with @Economy, I think it’s very generous to believe any explanation she gave for the Meat Dress that wasn’t just “I wanted attention.” For instance, the connection between the government, the military, and gay people to being “a piece of meat” was so loose and came off like an excuse to do something weird to me. 
 

I honestly think she just wanted attention and to seem artistic, but then again I don’t like it when people assume my intentions.

and yes it was about the don’t ask don’t tell policy which is amazing, but why is it surprising or new info that it was for attention? that’s the entire point, for attention so people talked about the topic...and Gaga has always been an intentionally attention-grabbing artist. Not y’all pointing it out as if it’s like...not obvious
