On one hand it’ll be the third time winning over many black musicians that were shunned the last decade. On the other it’ll be pretty hard not to consider it winning as America’s biggest pop star dropping a serious critically acclaimed album to massive commercial success. After Hours, Future Nostalgia, Chromatica (even with like three nonsensical songs in it), SAWAYAMA, Miss Anthropocene all deserve it better than Folklore. It is a good album, but it is way too obvious that it is MADE to get Grammys and acclaim. If it is going to an alternative album, it should go to Fetch The Bolt Cutters. LG has to compete with Harrry, Post, Dua. That’s more of an estimation. What is pop nowadays, The Weeknd’s album is pop but it’ll be submitted under best urban contemporary album. Taylor’s should be under folk or alternative album but it’ll be under pop vocal. Plus I think you’re overestimating Harry Styles album. It might just be between Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa although I think Gaga has more of an edge than her because of her history. There’s no guarantee they’ll be a even split between all popular genres nominated we might just get more pop albums nominated on the count of a lack of exciting rap albums and indie rock being a dead genre.
