"I know her fans think I hate her because I'm a Madonna fan, but I just think she's talented and put out two of the best pop records ever with BTW and TFM, so I expect more of her."

To be fair many of her fans think the same thing. :laughga:

I love this. She says what bugs her the most about Folklore and Joanne, and some music in general, is that these artists feel the need to use an acoustic guitar in order to be seen as “sincere.”

I have a lot of friends who won’t listen to dance/pop music, because they don’t view it as “good/hearty/quality” music. They only listen to alt/acoustic music and think they’re better because of it, which really bugs me. I’m happy someone finally put this in words for me.

I honestly think comparisons this year between Gaga and Katy make sense. They started around the same time and were always competing for the top spot, but now you can look back and compare careers to see how they stack up now. See where Katy went wrong compared to where Gaga went right to still get a number 1.

She says Smile is more successful than Chromatica. Literally no one thinks that.

And she trashes Joanne the track without ever mentioning that Gaga won a ****ing Grammy for it! She also never mentions her Oscar!

folklore is taylor’s best album and one of the best released this year, but not everyone’s ready for that convo:huntyga:

I disagree, but that's the problem with music critics - taste in music is such a personal experience that I don't understand why it's accepted for music critics to judge different albums for different reasons.

For example, as a pop album I didn't enjoy folklore much. It's the club nonstop megamix version of an acoustic country album. The tempo and sound is almost the same throughout the entire thing. However, lyrically it is excellent and the stories Taylor tells through the songs are amazing. Her vocals are wonderful as usual too. Thematically Taylor did an amazing job. But that doesn't mean I'm going to have it on rotation in my car.

So how can an album like that be compared to Gaga and Katy's which were designed for bopping and dancing?

there’s personal opinion, and then there’s objective fact. both can be applied to music. you may not enjoy folklore, but it’s objectively a great album. poetic lyrics, running themes, it’s cohesive, well-done production, etc.

These NYT critics have a horrible issue with Gaga. Like... it's insulting to put Gaga alongside Katy Perry in 2020. They're not even on the same level.

Also, the host talks about her with disdain. She says, "I know her fans think I hate her because I'm a Madonna fan, but I just think she's talented and put out two of the best pop records ever with BTW and TFM, so I expect more of her." God, it really, really pains them to EVER compliment her. I think I'm gonna cancel my subscription. :billie:

I wonder if there's bad blood left over from 2013 when Gaga tweeted Jon Carmonica for his negative ARTPOP review and told Monsters to ignore him.

That was exactly my point.
