No, she needed to switch lanes and show a more natural side after ARTPOP back fired, it was a way of fixing her image, same with Joanne

They rebuilt her career at a rapid pace. :air:

We should be grateful for those projects. :air:

I must enjoy being punished because I can't wait for her second jazz album (and also her piano ballad era). :flutter:

Um. No.

she did it because Tony is one of her heroes and she loves jazz music...?

She was clearly done with the hyper-scrutiny of being a pop star and wanted to make some passion projects instead, where she won’t be measured up to arbitrary expectations. Those projects were necessary for her to reconnect to her gifts and not have to chase empty validation. Look at her now - making pop music again without feeling a pressure to be “the moment.” She’s an established artist now and her legacy is sealed. Without those detours, I don’t think she would have endured.

Punish? :bear: We should be glad we even GOT Cheek to Cheek and Joanne, she doesn't owe us anything and they were very personal to her and vital to her career  .  I didn't feel punished or even slightly disappointed at all with those two albums either, Joanne had some of Gaga's best works :firega:

Anyone who cares about Gaga's career should be very, very glad she released C2C and Joanne.

Seeing how happy the C2C era made her makes it worth it for me.

No, she improved her career by proving she's talented and can do more than one music genre!

All of this.

I live outside the space time continuum.

As someone whose least favorite Gaga projects are C2C and Joanne, I agree. If she had released another BTW or ARTPOP Act II, or a Chromatica after ARTPOP she would have met the likes of Katy Perry and Kesha. The C2C - ASIB phase is the reason she’s still enjoying success, and any fan who can only see that phase as a “punishment” or “a mistake” is delulu
