Is Gaga the Radiohead of pop?

It recently occurred to me that their career paths were somehow similar.

Pablo Honey - The Fame (grunde and electropop were both dominant during their respective eras). They also gave them their biggest hits (Creep and Poker Face).

OK Computer - Fame Monster (both dark experimental albums that are their most critically acclaimed and most successful bodies of work). With its new wave and techno influences, Bad Romance didn't sound like anything on the radio back then while OK! Computer completely reshaped the rock scene because of how unique it was.

Kid A - Born This Way. At the peak of their fame, both Radiohead and Gaga chose to make a huge left turn by capitalizing on their weirdness instead of catering to the mainstream. Radiohead was expected to go back to grude and Gaga release another The Fame. Both albums received very mixed reviews but perceived as their creative peak. Kid A went on to enjoy enormous retrospective acclaim and was recognized as the best album of the 2000s by major publications. Born This Way is number one on our decade-end lists but you get my point anyway:firega:

Are there similarities? :triggered:

Wow I didn’t know such similarities happened in other genres but it’s music at the end of the day, being pop doesn’t make it any shallower

Oriane

I think a lot of artists kind of go that route, a first album that is more mainstream, a second one that is more like what they want to do, a third album where they experiment...

Yes :tea: and with both Radiohead and Gaga, one either loves them or hates them, no in between.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Ziggy Stadust = TFM

Alladin Sane = Born This Way

Diamond Dogs = ARTPOP
