Gaga’s best chorus is in 911

“you really have to appreciate the uniquenessof it to enjoy it.”

.. Okay? I don't get why I'm being quoted about this, I'm just stating my opinion on the subject. All I'm saying is that she's made better choruses imo (I really like TIHTY's & Joanne's choruses for example, and I think they're better than 911's) - if 911 is what you think is her best chorus, then fair enough. I may not personally agree with it, but I can at least respect it.

i'm not talking about taste. if somebody like 1980s-esque music, that isn't a dig – they'd probably like Blinding Lights.

And of course it's subjective, that goes without saying lol. All music taste is subjective.

But whether it's more contemporary or not does mean something – 911 is a better single choice than FW because it's more contemporary. Free Woman sounds like a 2011 single.

But you thinking that it sounds like a "2011 single" is subjective in it of itself. Just because 911 sounds better suited for radios today doesn't really mean anything...In fact, 911 is probably one of the least "radio-friendly" songs on the album. I would argue that FW is more "GP-friendly."

Also, SL and ROM are great examples of radio-friendly songs that didn't end up having the SMASH success that they could've. ROM's doing well, but honestly, it could be better. And while SL did debut at #5, it went nowhere as a single. Just because it sounds more contemporary doesn't mean that it'll automatically do better.

i agree. it's a very 2020-esque song which is why it'd be a good single

the stans stuck in 2010 pop can't see this :lana:they might be better off shipping Katy Perry if they want an artist who doesn't evolve

The shade towards Katy was unnecessary

Because Stupid Love and ROM are fundamentally out of step with what's popular. Their success is actually pretty remarkable if you examine what charts nowadays.

This site loves to hype up radio, but really, how important is it in 2020? Virtually all of the #1s in recent memory have done well on radio after the fact, another example of streaming guiding radio.

911 would be good because it's a more subdued, dark sound; it almost sounds like she's rapping in the verses (or at the very least, the way the lyrics ride the beat is reminiscent of a rap-style structure); and it's catchy!

The GP isn't here for the kitsch pop that FW belongs to – and if you disagree, I'd ask you to point to a single in the last 5 years that sounds like FW. The only one I can think of is All About That Bass, back in 2015. That sort of sound simply isn't popular anymore and would be a poor single choice.

And I say that acknowledging that it would've been a phenomenal single choice in 2010 or 2011 – the era it belongs to.

Free Woman sounds nothing like the songs from 2011...

And how is 911 contemporary? Neither 911 or Free Woman would be a good single choice imo. It doesn't fit the single themes at all. Both Stupid Love and Rain On Me were huge moments - and while I'd love to see what a video would look like for 911, the song itself is not what I would call single material. The chorus is significantly less interesting than the intro, verses and pre-chorus... and its done like that intentionally because of the song's subject. But I can't see radio picking it up or the GP like they did with Rain On Me or Stupid Love.

A better single choice (imo) would be to make Sour Candy a main single, or release another heavy-hitting anthem like Alice. Then Replay, then the last two singles would be Free Woman and Babylon.

Also 911 doesn't sound like anything by Billie or Dua.

It was played everywhere that I know. It went number one.

You may not think radio is important, but it still is very important.

i don't think radio is important lol. what #1 in 2020 has been a radio hit?

Rockstar? WAP? The Box? Cardigan? Savage?

Blinding Lights and Watermelon Sugar come to mind, but even then...

Radio is kind of a copout imo. It's passive listening. Streaming is far more indicative of what people ACTUALLY want to listen to.

I'm here for unpopular opinions but I have to say imo 911's chorus is the weakest part of the song. Like, everytime I listen to the song I think about the wasted potential because verses, prechorus and bridge are so good and the chorus does not come across as on par to them :enigma:

Everything could be everything (it could mean anything)

Naak Le Vaar

People will like a song and call it the best song in a discography/best song of the year/best song of the genre, etc. 911 has grown on me and I'm sure there's 911 stans out there, but this OP is a reach in my opinion.

Lmao they blocked my signature
