Smile Will Debut At #5 than #1 on BB200, Why?

All the other Main Pop Girls, namely Gaga and Taylor have been hitting #1 on BB200 with their new album this year. All the more impressive is Taylor Swift, who release it in short notice and managed to be on top for 6 consecutive weeks and on its way to 7th now. And helping a lot of indie record stores while doing so, too!

And in case anyone wanna drag ARTPOP and Joanne in here, let it be known that those two albums, at its "worst", were still debuting at #1 on BB200

But why can't Katy's Smile? :oprah:

Will this finally push Katy to change her music direction and image? Or will she still gonna do her 2010s sounds like her other 2 albums released after her big hit, Teenage Dream? Will she ever recover from Witness curse? Or will her label grounded her after this? :oprah:

Discuss.

Well, I genuinely like smile as an album and it really has cute boppy songs but that's what it have only and katy has lost her major gp appeal after witness, people here don't want to accept it was her hair change, but I really think it did played an important role in whole katy Perry Persona, when I was a local, katy perry image was black hair and a sexy gp appeal! But after witness she kinda lost that!

Impersonation got me restricted!

She wasn't able to stay relevant or build a base, so is therefore a product of her time back at the peak of pop. Had she been able to wow people with her talent, build a base, and been known for touring she'd have still faced a decline (like Gaga) but maybe could've reinvented herself.

Aside from those points that cover her as an artist or name, the album itself is objectively bad.

Critics hate it, the charts are telling, and there's been no artistic growth.

She had a moderate/decent hit last year that will do 500m streams on Spotify, that shows that if she made some good music with a good accessible MV and lyrics, she can overcome her other issues.

People still listened to her and didn't think it was uncool again for the summer of 2019, and in a pop context. Gaga was still doing HAC last year even. That shouldn't be knocked.

Unfortunately that is now gone, and what we see is the reception to Smile today.

Stare at the Chartster in the mirror they talk to me too. #StreamFunTonight

What do you want us to say? :bear:

That Taylor sabotaged Katy and paid Capitol to plot her decay so that the sales of Smile were credited to Folklore instead of Katy's album...:selena:

That would be a more interesting theory than the cruel truth: No one is here for Katy's new album.

#5 is still a pretty good number. Katy has never been an albums artist so don't know why you're surprised about this. None of the singles were hits so the album is just dropping out of nowhere and only real fans know about it, not to mention it's a pretty lazy body of work.

Am I the only one who’s never even heard of Pop Smoke? :bear:

He was shot to death earlier this year, he’s best known for his songs ‘dior’, ‘for the night’ & more recently ‘mood swings’ :hor:
