Gaga Knew How Many VMAs She Would Win?

For most major award shows like Grammys, Oscars, Emmys, they don't know in advance. Maybe @SamanthaC can confirm, as her husband has a coveted Emmy.  (Also, look at the La La Land/Moonlight mess at the Oscars a couple of years back; clearly that was a fustercluck of a surprise.) 

 But for this year's VMAs, she already knew ahead of her performance as the speeches themselves were recorded the day before the performance. I'm not sure if in other years whether VMA recipients are informed in advance (other than the Vanguard). 

The exception to what I wrote appears to be that for some less prestigious awards, if they know the winner won't be there, they have them prerecord a video acceptance speech, but this doesn't happen for the major ones like Grammys, Emmys, Oscars, Tonys, Golden Globes, Critics Choice,  which is why if the winners aren't present, the presenters accept the award on their behalf. I think for the less prestigious ones, they might use the awards as bait to attract the winners to attend, but the major award shows don't need to do that.

This is just MTV I never took the actual awards seriously. I am sure it’s always been planned out who they give awards to. But I am sure they told her because she has to accept the awards on that sound stage and have outfits planned out. 
 

also gaga has the number one album and hit song. I think that’s why it centered around her.

They may do what happens on RuPaul where each finalist or *nominee in this case* films an acceptance speech and only play the one that wins on the night.

yes that's what i meant
