Jakkusan 800
I totally disagree with you on 911. I thought it was awesome.
Doot 2
911 just sounded different because she didn't have the effects. Also, I can't even sing the first verse without running out of breath. She didn't sit in the studio and just sing them straight, they were edited together. She has that on a lot of her songs where verses and such overlay. Emvee 8,405
I knew the moment I heard 911 that it would not sound good live. It’s like HML, Mary Jane Holland, and John Wayne. Bops, but her voice is too edgy and unnatural. Even Poker Face sometimes had this problem - especially in the earlier days.

On the other hand, I do agree with the 911 criticism and I also feel like the production could have looked more professional. Honestly I say this because I’m comparing it to some of the other performances and they looked expensive and impeccably put. I feel like had the set and production been better it would have elevated the performance into a whole ‘nother level. Doja’s performance is literally what I thought Gaga would pull off. I agree with the points however I don’t think Gaga should’ve gone with a virtual set. Doja’s just seems off like it’s a music video or something, idk the whole live but the set is virtual seems very tacky. Gaga’s stage looked like an actual stage which I prefer, although I 100% agree that the set could’ve looked a bit more professional. The lighting could’ve been better and they could’ve incorporated colored lights / lasers during 911, for ROM they could’ve sang with rain pouring down behind them or something. I didn't really know what to expect because there is so much autotune and voice effects in the studio version, it sounds very difficult to sing. I thought she did a good job of it. I agree with this. In fact, ROM was the least underwhelming for me and didn't translate as well live compared to the other two songs. Not that it wasn't still good though I had to watch the performance again a few times to appreciate Gaga's vocals on ROM as you could tell all the choreo + mask was affecting her vocals on it. They just didn't shine through the first time for me. Whereas Ari's vocals really shined since she hadn't done all that choreo and everything before coming out. Of course, SL acoustic and the ending Gaga's vocals really came through and shined
ArtpopAct2 2,672
I guess I’m an odd one out in that I love when she sings with that robotic nasally voice 911 made me collapse I mean it’s not like she has anything to prove with her vocals

Be delusional then. Stupid Love on piano. SURE I will give you that. Rain On Me was decent... but I've heard better and Idgaf - it isn't negative just a side note. She has done better. While I do agree Doja’s set looked incredible and had a general similarity to the themes of space, I think the world of Chromatica is meant to emulate a more camp vision of sci-fi fantasy, closer resembling cult classic retro films (think Flash Gordon, Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, Planet of the Apes, the original Tron, etc), focusing more on physical theatre-like sets and 80’s cyber-punk Camp (the filming style and planet landscape of the Stupid Love MV is so reminiscent of Flash Gordon), whereas Doja’s performance was a more modern almost avatar meets synth wave-ish interpretation of deep space sci-fi. Overall I quite preferred Gaga’s (aside from some iffy mask-related vocals) because it felt like I was at a full scale broadway theater show, which is why I have always loved Gaga’s tours so much. It felt real, it felt tangible, it felt like a set you could actually explore and adventure in - similar to how as a kid I always wanted to explore sets like Legends of the Hidden Temple. Doja’s performance (though amazing in its own way) felt like more like a 2nd music video and less accessible.

She has other songs in her discography that are meant to be more vocally intensive where she can truly let her vocals shine. ROM was never meant to be that kind of song. I didn't hear anything that sounded off or bad. It was fun, high energy and entertaining.
Linus Gaga 8,203
at this point i think gaga should use a little bit more backing track when she do such lot of choreography, she literally sang all the backing vocal in live which makes her hatd to take a breath. 911 was actually better than I thought. The opening curtain explosion was my favorite, however they should have put it as the transition ( i mean this curtain thing came before the transition l, so the iconic transition didn't feel as explosive as it is) Yeah, ROM feel rushed, but the 2nd Choruswas sooo good anyway. I thought they recorded separately because they didn't have much interaction and I thought they were faking looking at each other during the bridge. Also, they cut ROM too much and sounded a bit strange, especially the last chrous, which is the highlight of the whole song. There were lots of silence talking when she was walking up and down the piano, adding some drum or music would be great. Anyway overall is amazing. As usual I rewatched the performance 18383829times, also reaction videos. I still cannot believe that we just heard Gaga sing Chromatica songs live amd the era just REALLY launched Hit me a message and say hi !
neopet bbq 38
i thought it was ****ing amazing! no complaints from me. The other performances although i enjoyed them don't hold a candle to gagas and thats my honest opinion.
Taylucifer 5,153
911 was kinda a flop live, highlight was probably SL piano 'The Life of a Showgirl' is out on Oct

What made Gaga's so unique is she went out of her way to have a complete live set built, each movement was rehearsed (getting out of the bed, coming down the pole, the walk up to the piano, etc) and it was perfectly built around a green screen for added effects. This! Gaga is old school when it comes to stage performances. To me this staging felt like it was orginally intended for the Chromatica Ball. It's very similar in setup to the Monster Ball and the BTW ball stages. Gaga likes props, levels and elaborate piano's. She was hugely inspired by Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper and I'm happy to see her stay true to this staging. The fact that esp 911 and Stupid Love had a more rock sound made me love this a lot, because it's just like her concerts and I usually prefer that sound a little over what's on the record. I just love seeing her life, I get such an energetic rush and the same happened watching this. The vocals during ROM annoyed me a little because her voice sounded so muffled and echoing through the mask. I wished she'd switched masks with the outfits. Overall blown away and I'm still drooling over her acceptance speech looks. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
