Covid & Next Single

With the VMAs coming up and the 3rd start of the Chromatica era, I've been thinking about the next single a lot. I really think that Gaga is either going to perform and release a new single the week of the VMAs or use the VMA hype as like a slingshot to release a new single a week or two afterwards. Like without radio support I think the best we can hope for ROM is a week or two in the top ten/twenty. So, I was going through the track list and wondering what may be the next single, and I had some thoughts that I'd like your opinion on:

Free Woman

- Rumours circulating are that a free woman video has been made and it was originally intended as a single. But to release it now during covid just seems a little tone deaf. Like I don't think any one wants to hear a celebrity repeatedly sing "I'm a Freeeeee Woman" over and over when they're currently locked in their house and/or their lives are heavily restricted for people's safety. Like it just screams anti-maskers anthem and I don't feel Gaga would want to be associated with that. Also, "This is my dancefloor I fought for" is perfect for nightclubs, gaybars and nights out that to release the track now would just be a huge waste of potential. It may have been (/will be) a good single just not now.

Alice

- I think the hopeful message really works for the moment. It recognises that now isn't brilliant, but the future can be hopeful. I think it captures the frustration people are currently facing with the situation and the want to escape to some where better. It's also catchy as hell. The line "Could you pull me out of this alive?" might be a tad distasteful with the loss of life during the pandemic, but it is much less prominent of a line than Free Woman so can be looked over. A lot of people are looking for their Wonderland and something to be hopeful for; and, I think with the USA elections on the horizon, I think people will be looking for more hope.

Sine From Above

-Similar to Alice, I think this song has a sense of hope that could really resonate right now. The chorus can connote faith and a lot of people have been turning to their faith for guidance during this tumultuous time, so could resonate with people. It's also about healing and moving on from struggles in the past, many countries have faced the worst of the pandemic (hopefully) so the songs sense of moving on could be really hopeful. I do though worry about choosing a feature as the next song: coming off of Tony Bennett, Bradley Cooper, Ariana Grande and BlackPink I think the general public, who doesn't pay attention to everything, needs to see Gaga on her own again. Also, I'm unsure how the dance break at the end would effect whether radio would play the song.

Replay

-Tiny bias, but this is my favourite song from Gaga in years; the chorus just makes me want to dance and sing. But, it would be a great single for now because of the mental health messaging. "The scars on my mind are on replay" I feel is so resonant right now. All of my friends and I feel that since nothing much is happening in our lives- we get up watch netflix, cry and that's about it because of lockdown- we've all been overthinking past memories and tiny little things that it feels like every tiny thing feels so much bigger and much more important. So, I think the song could connect with people a lot. Also, the confusion in the lyrics definitely captures the situation. Admittedly, however, I'd love the song to be released around October to have a really cool Halloween visual.

Sour Candy

- I really think Sour Candy should have a video as the last single. BlackPink fans are amazingly dedicated and it means any visual released will get decent first day numbers. So, to release as last single when it's hardest to get hype, it guarantees a decent first week peak. Also, hopefully by then BlackPink will have had a successful album launch and had some decent success in the US that by the time Sour Candy's video is released the US radio will be more willing to play it.

I cannot see any other track being considered as a single for now (I think Babylon will be saved for a Chromatica re-release and the Haus Labs remix), so I personally think Alice would be the perfect next single if Gaga wanted to release one around the VMAs.  Of course, I am a fan and will have any video, performance or single on repeat for weeks whatever she chooses, I'm just excited for anything really.

im team alice. A few verses with a shocking stunt and then going into Rain On Me with Ari would be the perfect VMA performance

I love to see Alice or Sine From Above be the next single. Honestly since the album release, I’m cool with a 2 single era and rest be music videos and mini promos.

i'm team free woman. it's the safest single choice tbh. i dont see SFA or alice being a single. Replay is great but not as safe as free woman. sour candy should've been released as a single months ago before blackpink's HYLT released. releasing now is not a good idea and their single with selena / album will overshadow SC.

Tbh, team anything but Free Woman. It's "radio friendly" but so was Stupid Love and we all saw how that turned out, and Stupid Love is the better song imo. She needs something bolder, especially if she wants to capture people's attention so long after the album has come out.
