I think this is going a bit too far.

Why is it a surprise to you guys that a white, wealthy celebrity has been mean to people backstage? Did you really buy the “nice” persona? In the entertainment industry nothing is what it seems. Ellen will be the least of your worries when you discover the “wholesome” people operating among PDFile rings in Hollywood.

Oh, yeah of course her meanness comes from the fact that she is white... Because we all know that being kind or mean depends on your race... :trollga:

Irrelevant

she literally just translated what she said and she decided it would be "funny" to interrupt her? And when the boy responded in Chinese she just said "nevermind"?

the translator is just doing her job :fatcat:

Find yourself someone who loves you as much as some people here love defending this rich, mean white woman.

I think that's terrible from Ellen. Never mind whether it's a witch hunt or whether she's a victim of cancel culture, I think this clip is terrible.

It is extremely bad mannered at best and at worst, let's be hnoest, it is arguably racist. It is also a very unkind way to treat a child. He would be very nervous to start wirh, now he doesn't know what's going on, doesn't know why the translator was cut off, doesn't know why people are laughing. He's just grist to the mill of Ellen's edgy humour.

Now here's a question. Was this called out at the time ? I don't know, I don't watch Ellen. If I'd seen it, would I have called it out, or would I have just shrugged and thought to myself that she likes to push the envelope a bit ? Or would I just have found it funny ? I don't know.

To those defending her here... Did you receive an education? Were you taught respect?

Because what she is doing is not funny, it's blatantly disrespectful.

"Don't do to others what you wouldn't others do to you". That's some basic knowledge.

She is making fun of someone else's language. On a TV show. Not only that, she is also telling her guest "nvm" after SHE asked a question, and only because he is not speaking English. He is a kid.

They are not emerging now, there's been videos before, it's just no one really paid attention and sh*tty borderline racist jokes were normalized :saladga:

That's no way to treat a foreign little child! She can play mean with her older guests that at least speak the language so they can "b*tch back" if they want to, but this is just sh*tty.

I actually used to like her videos, but that came to a halt when she interviewed Priyanka Chopra for the first time on her show. She was unnecessarily rude and condescending towards her.

There was a little bit of backlash even then I guess, and ultimately they didn't upload her interview on YouTube. :fthis:

Ummmm I think it's just a joke :saladga:

Here in the ph (in asia) tv show hosts always do that joke when there's an interpreter but then redeem it with "it's just a joke"

No, but considering you’re more likely to become wealthy in the entertainment industry and have access to the kind of victims that have come forward and to be able to keep it quiet for so long, being white helps.
