Here in the ph (in asia) tv show hosts always do that joke when there's an interpreter but then redeem it with "it's just a joke"

The thing is I don’t think what ph thinks can be applied to the entire Asia. There are actually Chinese in the twitter thread found it offensive and we shouldn’t discredit their opinions.
Also, I found people saying us are sensitive nowadays but it’s just the fact we have more platforms to actually vocalize our concerns.

Please ignore the spelling in username. I am a Beyonce stan afterall.

A bit rude but clearly a joke. People are doing the most now. I'd be so drained if I was actively looking for things to be faux outraged about.

I said it last time and I said it again. Hating on her for her old jokes now that it is trendy to hate her, but not back when the interview happened, and was watched by millions of people during the broadcast and on youtube, is hypocritical and pathetic.

I bet she is enjoying the youtube views you fake sjws are giving her while scanning her whole channel for controversial stuff.

Ellens humour is based on being harsh to people and sell it in a nice way. I think she already noticed that she must be more sensitive to her employees and her TV guests. Going through every joke she made on TV over the years JUST to find a situation where she pulled off an insensitve/disrespectful joke is like carrying on to drag people for her past mistakes even though they already apologized and promised to do better.

But people wont stop until she ends her show and never appears in public again. People who carry on dragging her just for the sake of intimitation or destruction are the ones who need to be „cancelled“ are more disgusting than Ellens behaviour.

People are calling out Ellen, no one is trying to demonize or destroy Ellen's life. Don't blow this out of proportion as if someone ordered a hitman on her lol.

Lmao they blocked my signature

Humor based on mocking people for their (cultural) differences has never been funny or clever. It's the laziest way to make a dumb audience laugh. Let's challenge ourselves, we deserve better than gratuitous nastiness coming from "comedic" celebs.

At this point I believe someone is spending their quarantine stuck at home all day watching every single Ellen episode trying to grasp at something that could be seen as bad for her.

Again, comedians do this kind of jokes all the time, including Chinese comedians about Americans. Chinese people will literally take pictures of you wherever you go just because you are a different ethnicity or race, because they are so not used to different people. You can be at a restaurant having a meal and people will gather around you taking pictures of your face because they have (almost) never seen white or black people around there.

It is meant to make people laugh and not to offend anyone. Like a "fun fact: their language is weird when compared to ours" type of thing, which everyone will say about other languages when they hear it. It doesn't make it funny or right for everyone, but it is a common thing in any country.

And no, I couldn't care less for Ellen. I just hate this kind of fake activist modern day witch hunt that's going on in the past few years. If you really think that something is wrong and you really care about it, do something about it and stop trying to be seen as the next best person for finding these clips/tweets. You are not the savior of humanity, and your "viral" tweet will be forgotten by tomorrow. Remember you (society in general) were the ones giving these people their platform, and then try to knock them down as if you were not laughing with them before, accepting this behavior and now removing yourself from the picture just because you are not the face under the spotlight.

People are getting fired left and right for this. Sure, she will be fine with the money she's got already, but this is definitely not "just a call-out".

But are they truly offended, as in, their life is affected by it, or are they just bored and want to be the center of attention in a popular post?

Ellen is being dragged because of homophobia. She's no worse than anyone else in the industry

Stop making it about her sexuality, It has nothing to do with her sexuality :billie:

Just because she’s gay doesn’t mean that if we call her out for outright questionable behaviour, we’re being homophobic.

we’re being ellenphobic because she has shown time & time how rude and nasty she can be

It’s not that though. The boy, a mandarin speaking child literally got cut off mid sentence and had the audience laughing without him realising why, that’s cruel, especially since Ellen invited him and the translator on the show. Let him answer the question :bear:
