HoneyB 27,672
I thought I would shed light on one of the most fascinating and terrifying pieces of art I have ever listened to that I recently just found out about and has greatly intrigued me. I present to you: The Caretaker-Everywhere at The End Of Time Yes you saw the time correctly, this project is a whole 6 hours long This was made by James Leyland Kirby. The goal of the album was to document and recreate what it feels like for patients suffering dementia have to go through. The album is split up into 6 stages, with each stage further making you spiral into madness. The first 3 stages are relatively normal, the music is similar to ballroom music it gives you a sense of familiarity and nostalgia of a time you never knew. Stages 4-6 are where it gets... interesting. The music you are originally used to has become completely distorted, your hearing is clouded with a cacophony of noises, you feel like you're sitting off staring into space with TV static in the background. Each stage twists and mangles the ballroom music you were accustomed to in the beginning, you desperately try to remember how it used to sound like but the jarring sounds leave you anxious, scared, and empty. At the last stage you aren't evening listening to what would even considered to be music, just noise. I do want to give a warning to those suffering mental health issues to proceed with caution if you ever wish to listen to this. This project is meant to listen in full completion. As I listened to this album it shook me to my core, I was so amazed at how the artist was able to make sounds that left me terrified and emotional. Dementia is such a terrifying fear of mine, to be unable to remember a life you lived and slowly fading away is much more worse than death for me. I HIGHLY recommend you watch the video I provided, the channel explains the beauty of the album in much better detail than I ever could, I just wanted to share something I found cool. The artwork for the stages are also beautiful and do a good job of conveying the representation of the music. I just find it amazing that the artist was able to harness the power of music, to help replicate such terrifying feelings and his use of sound affecting how we feel it’s incredible. It also makes you sympathize more with those who suffer with Alzheimers and Dementia, cherish the friends, family, and memories you have while you still can If you have already heard about this before, how was your experience listening to it? I was a mess If there is anything that I missed out on, feel free to correct me and I’ll edit the OP ***LISTEN AT YOUR OWN RISK*** 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪

I used to work at a retirement home and we used to have this one woman who had dementia, and she always would try to escape, saying she didn't live there and she was always confused on what was going on around her. She even hallucinated that her ex husband was sleeping on her couch but no one was there. It’s so terrifying to think about what people who have it have to go through it’s heartbreaking 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪

It is such a interesting album, just an fyi, it has no singing at all, it’s allll music similar to ballroom music which eventually turns into a bunch of noises. If you get to listening to it let me know how it goes Also sorry to hear that about your grandfather, I’m sorry for your loss 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪

Dementia and Alzheimer's is terrifying, I can't imagine. I have had to take care of patients of these diseases. It's hard work and sad. The future's uncertain and the end is always near. It’s so terrifying to think about what people who have it have to go through it’s heartbreaking I’ve had many similar experiences. They truly live in another reality that seems so strange to us but to them it’s as real as can be and they just want someone to understand and believe what they’re going through. I think the biggest challenge we as humans can ever face is our own brain failing us.

Well it’s best to listen to it entirely, but realistically nobody has that much time, so there’s nothing wrong with splitting it up and taking breaks the album can get tiring and overwhelming so taking breaks is probably recommended! 💋 𝕊𝕥𝕖𝕡 𝕐𝕒 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕌𝕡💋🍪
Oriane 20,680
This interested me so I decided to do some research. I think the artist himself doesn't have dementia, but he created a persona, a kind of character that has dementia and made this album from the point of view of the character. I would have found it more interesting obviously if the artist actually suffered from it, but I don't even know how it would work for someone with this illness to work on such a big project... Anyway, I love the concept, but it would make me to depressed to listen to it right now, maybe in the future. Just reading about it and reading some people's comments made me so sad The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!
