PrinceOfTheStorm 5,904
Since it's been 5 years since Carly Rae Jepsen launched her 3rd studio album, E•MO•TION, I wanted to reflect on it, and why it stands as a pop masterpiece, and a grand album that should be appreciated. A few years after "Kiss", her 2nd studio album, CRJ put together her dream team of producers and collaborators to make a true pop record, including Rostam, Devonte Hynes and more, there was a lot of songs crafted specifically for this album. When she finally cut down the list of 200+ songs to a 12 song record, 17 songs counting deluxe editions, we were given an album that told a story of love, but not for those who feel love, but for the ones without love. The songs that spell this out the most are Gimme Love and Your Type. Gimme Love sings a song about wanting someone to reciprocate love to you, asking is it too much to have love. Your Type is the rejection song, with feelings of realization of you are not the person of your dream's type, which leaves feelings of sadness and regret in the lyrics "And I'm not going to pretend I'm the type of girl you call more than a friend". This theme of wanting love is shown throughout the album, in songs like: Run Away With Me, wanting to treasure a special moment with someone, and running away with them to make it last forever. This song is a perfect album opener btw, and a perfect pop song. All That, hoping that you would be the first person that who you like would rely on, that you're their comfort zone, and that they can rely on you for anything. Let's Get Lost, young love is all over the song in that you hope the person driving you home takes the longer way to home, to spend the most amount of time you can with them. Warm Blood, one of the best songs on the album as well, being around someone gets your blood going, feeling good, and you want to spend more time with them to get that feeling of love, or in this case "warm blood". Favorite Color, "We blend into my favorite color", comparing her relationship with someone is more than being friends, and that its like her favorite color, baby blue. Not to mention the production on a lot of these songs are fantastic, with already existing bops like RAWM, we got I Really Like You, Boy Problems, Making Most of the Night, LA Hallucinations and I Didn't Come Here to Dance, all with good pop production, giving the album upbeat pop moments in the mix of depth lyricism of wanting to be loved and have love, whether it be romance or friendship love (Boy Problems). All of this combines into the pop perfection album of E•MO•TION. It's pure pop at it's finest, catchy hooks and great lyricism with pure pop instrumentals mesh so well with Carly's voice. Something about her voice goes well with the production of her songs, which is something a lot of artists can't get right, but Carly does. The album speaks to a lot of people, who can relate to the themes of the album, wanting to be loved, and personally, I connected with it on so many levels. It is my favorite album of all time for all of these reasons. Carly may not be the most popular artist on the scene, but she made the hidden gem album of 2015, and still to this day 5 years later, people still seem to not go back or even know of it's existence. Maybe today you guys will give this album an entire listen. If you do, what are your favorite tracks, and do you agree with what I've said? Thank you for reading. signing out

bpmMonkey 6,036
It’s pure perfection ! I hope she rereleases as a vinyl now, would be a dream. Also, somewhere I read she’s the Canadian Robyn of this generation. Both produce so unique, to the core crafted pop music, both underrated by the GP but praised by the gays who truly have taste. now stream emotion and honey ! Happy weekend
