If the movie is about the over sexualization of women like some people defending it are saying they better do a damn good job of showing how wrong it is especially with Minors involved.

Call me cynical but the trailer and promo around it doesn't do a thing to show that, in fact it's doing the exact thing it's supposed to be against.

What were the parents thinking letting their children twerk in a movie like that? :saladga:

In a movie? Look up school danceteam competitions over the past few years and see what you find. Those girls in the movie are only portraying what is going on in real life and has been for a while. When parents allow their children to consume the same music and social media content that they themselves do then that will always be the result. They are only imitating what they are seeing and its constantly being reinforced.

I'm genuinely asking here, but for all the people wanting this to be banned do you also think dance competitions for kids should be banned? Based on the trailer alone, I don't really see anything that you wouldn't see at an ordinary dance competition.

Not to mention, the reviews indicate that the film is critiquing that anyway.

First of all there is nothing wrong with that trailer. If you think something in the trailer is sexual then you are the problem. Also this is portrayal of real life and what is happening in real life. This is not some glorification. This is what is actually happening at these competitions. Also what do y’all expect when girls nowadays listen to songs like WAP (that you yourselves praise and say it’s groundbreaking)? Literally what do you expect? This is what girls aspire to do and be because of recent trends in music.

Also it’s clear that 90% of people wanting this to be banned didn’t even watch the trailer or did some research about it. STOP BEING FAKE WOKE it’s actually embarrassing.

I don't get it lol. When I saw the thread last night I thought it'd be about sex abuse or something but the trailer seems pretty normal, girl wants to dance and drama at home? Maybe people got triggered by the poster and they got the wrong idea.

Even if it's purpose is about the over sexualization

It's just common sense, putting girls in that situation might be a risk, and it's showing already

They might be setting up those girls to be sexualizated on the internet, etc, when they could just avoid it

Even if the movie is actually OK, wtf is up with that promo shot of them in the blue outfits?

Why is that child down on her knees like that? Wtf kind of dance move is that?

It looks like blatant pedo baiting. I'm glad people are calling it out. This agenda to sexulize little girls is real.

REALITY

Okay, well now I have mixed emotions about this. From the promo images and from the way people have been talking about this movie, it seemed like a huge no-no, but looking at the trailer, I don't know...Like, why are people choosing to cancel this over something like Dance Moms? IDK, it just seems like selective outrage right now.

I do think that the girls are sexualized, but again, I don't see this as really any different than dance competitions. Some of the dance moves are pretty suggestive, which is definitely a problem, but what is the main problem here? I feel uncomfortable with this, but also, we need to be consistent about what we get outraged about. If we're cancelling this, then please cancel any and all dance competitions. This movie alone isn't doing anything much different than what we've already seen.

I agree. I think it was more so that Neflix promo poster that caused the uproar, not necessarily the trailer. The trailer doesn't look SO bad. I have no idea what the movie is like though.

People called out a lot of sketch incidences in Dance Moms as well. It's crazy to me what is normalized for young girls these days. The combination of the outfits, dance moves, and makeup are all things thay adult women do to be sexy and little girls are imitating that. That may be okay in the privacy of their own homes, but it's not ok outside of that.

People defend it as just dancing and say things like "if you view it as sexual, then something wrong with you." People have been conditioned to exuse this stuff as normal. Meanwhile little girls are clearly being exploited and its only getting worse.

Hm I'm french, saw the trailer on TV, it's not a pedophile movie where they promote pedophilia, it's definitely about young girls being in a dancing group and the deeper meaning and theme is about oversexualization of young girls which is a very important topic to talk about. If u don't like it, don't watch it

While watching the trailer, I found it outrageous as well but it's on purpose or else it wouldn't have been on Netflix or in cinema here in France

The user reviews om IMDB yesterday were disturbing. Calling a 11 years old girl a sexy actress:wacko:

When the media and artists sexualize young girls, young adults and women, of course this **** is going to keep happening. And when I say WAP music video is too oversexual and not changing anything about our problems as women, I get called a "prude". Too much sex out there, and it's always women having to be the object of it. Tired of it

woooo this is way too real... they kinda remind me of those girls from my school who were throwing it back and everything (probably the same everywhere else)

+ the religious family she grew up in... omg this is going to be interesting and the song choice in the trailer aaaahhhh

people in the comments talking about "don't give creeps content" as if your kids aren't out here doing much worse to get their likes and you have no issue with that !? but a woman talking about her life (and criticizing the sexualization of children in the meantime) through a freaking movie is a problem? chile please

they be celebrating it, doing WAP challenges in real life but wanna act offended now...
