Maïmouna Doucouné wrote the film about her own upbringing. As a woman, it was really obviously from the trailer she is recounting her own youth including the hypersexualization of girls.

Sorry about the bad comment, I didn't know.

The amount of people going off having absolutely 0 idea what the movie is about is hilarious and perfectly sums up online cancel culture :lmao:

100% this was made so there would be a petition and then nefflix is gonna remove it as if they are woke af

hope they don't. I'm tired about cancel and twitter stupid petitions culture (obviously i'm talking about stupid petitions censoring art in their many forms, not about actual good petitions so don't come for me)

“The film is based on a traditional Senegalese Muslim girl who is caught and torn between two contrasting fortunes, traditional values and internet culture while also speaks about hyper sexualization of pre-adolescent girls.”

“ The film was premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition sector of 2020 Sundance Film Festivalon 23 January 2020 and won the Directing Jury Award praising the script of the film.”

the world is not cotton candy, the director wanted to show some of her own experiences so... if you are uncomfortable, don't watch it (I'm gonna watch it so I can actually have an opinion but at least i did my research)

Most people here don't even bother to read OPs nowadays. A lot of people here simply read thread titles and that's about it.

Same I was in a modern dance group as a child so I was around a lot of kids dancing. I don’t think people realize by being outraged by this they are literally sexualizing children’s bodies. Kids just like dancing and they emulated the dancing they see on tv, online, and in person so sometimes they will do a dance that is seen sexual in adults, doesn’t mean the kids dancing that way is inherently sexual.
