I meant the current trend now. Just like migos didnt invent trap but made it popular a few years ago.

My post on the previous page: Cher with Dancing Queen and Chic with It’s About Time, both from 2018.

Why wouldn’t two powerhouse superstar performers have that power? Everything old is new again and everything that was new is now old, and unfortunately there was no New Gaga who came out of nowhere in 2018 or 2019 and served up disco. If you’re looking for a “current” artist who started it, you won’t find it.

I feel like ever since Daft Punk released RAM it has been slowly increasing to what the situation is now

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Why stop at Starboy in 2016? Why not 2013 when Daft Punk won all those Grammys for Get Lucky with Pharrell? We might as well include every disco revival (eg Madonna’s Confessions in 2004, S Club 7 in 2000, Spice Girls Who Do You Think You Are in 1997 etc) since 1979...

Because disco always comes and goes in waves. But if your question is specific about the 2020 disco trend, we can’t go back that far. In 2018 two music legends surprised the music world with their success at reviving disco for the Nth time. If you recall 2019, it was full of megahits that sounded nothing alike: Old Town Road, Dance Monkey, Bad Guy. By 2019 the world was already developing a backlash against the trap/tropical house sound that defined the decade.

Disco was an organic trend that started when labels discovered that young people realised they actually prefer to listen to old music anyway. This new wave has no “leader” because it didn’t need one. This was a democratic shift by young listeners rejecting new music, not a movement by young artists. I credit people power with the change.

Extremely ahistorical take. Maybe in our hearts but not in reality.

Every three years like a few disco songs become global smash hits and there’s a revival. Confessions and Fever in mid 2000s the 2013-2015 one with blurred Lines, Happy, Daft Punk’s RAM, Uptown Funk

After it’s 230483838th resurgence you have to wonder whether it’s ever really gone away and it’s just an easily used trope in pop music

This is actually a serious post so hear me out. This song is complete disco bop and was released only 6 months before this whole disco wave started with Dont Start Now!

Madonna always ahead of the curve!

Kylie Minogue with Light Years in 2000 and later in 2001/2002 with Fever.

Dua Lipa started the newest disco revival for the youngest generation.

As a Madonna fan I disagree... Madonna has already started a disco revival with Confessions in 2005/2005, so disco has been present on almost every album after than (Beautiful Killer is her most disco song in my opinion), but God Control - while being totally disco and totally Madonna, didn't start anything, it barely went noticed.
