I wish Katy would have kept it for an upcoming era because she can't do much about it right now because of her pregnancy. I think she's basically using the sad clown imagery. The previous visuals have nothing to do with circus. I wanna see magicians, I wanna ser her getting cut in half, I wanna see her hanging on the trapeze and all that stuff And I know she can pull all those circus-inspired visuals perfectly. Katy Perry - Smile I know it's "too early" to judge, however, we already know the Xtina circus take ca. 2006 is the most faithful. The second disc of Back to Basics truly was a concept album around a circus theme. Each song, even if not directly referencing a circus or related component, completely fits within that world. The Britney Circus obviously has great singles and is a pretty solid concept and sound. Her visuals were on par with Xtina. The Katy circus theme? Already messy. The visuals are all over the place (though some of the recent photography work is stunning...but unfortunately almost too late?). The sound is all over the place...Never Really Over and Harley's in Hawaii (and even Daisies) really seem like they're from a totally separate project.
