As a new AG, Harris also helped push through a bill in the California Legislature that offered homeowners some of the strongest protections in the nation against aggressive foreclosure tactics by banks, which was credited in part for a plunge in foreclosures in the state. The measure also gave private citizens the right to sue financial institutions if they violated the law. Shortly after taking office, Harris created a mortgage fraud task force that not only assisted with the mortgage settlement, but also went after financial firms that targeted homeowners facing foreclosure. The task force also took legal action against the banks and financial ratings firms for the massive losses that California’s two giant public pension systems, the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and California State Teachers’ Retirement System, sustained after unknowingly investing in securities that included risky subprime mortgages. “As the fraud was being uncovered, many of the AGs were yelling ‘Settle, settle, settle.’ They just wanted to get their hands on the money,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who during the negotiations was setting up the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for the Obama administration. Warren has endorsed Harris for U.S. Senate and has appeared in one of the attorney general’s campaign ads. “[Harris] was the one who said ‘No, we have to do better, and we have to investigate more. Too many families have been destroyed by the crisis and the illegal activity of these banks.’” Shes not Progressive, but even if she is, im not a Progressive so I dont care if shes one. Being a Progressive doesnt make you a good person or politician. And her doing good things doesnt erase the bad things she did. Trump has done alot of good things too you know? does it erase the bad hes done?

It just means out of the less than 50 democrats she's among the least right wing of the bunch. Nancy Pelosi, Warren, Bernie, AOC, Rashida, Hillary and Kamala all claim to be progressives but there is a lot of ideological space between the small list I just gave you. The word progressive doesn't necessarily mean very much when everybody and their mother use it as a label to make them seem better than they are. Personally I find bernie, rashida, and AOC to be truly progressive, the rest on the list are very very iffy especially kamala and hillary STREAM JUICE BY LIZZO

She shook her head at tulsi’s accusations, yet provided no substantive defense of her actions and deflected in arguably the most awkward and disingenuous way possible. She has really good skills when she is in control of the debate and has prepared for the specific questions that will be asked. That I won't deny. However, when in the presidential debates, where she's being asked questions off the cuff where she isn't 100% prepared for the questions and format of the debate, she did very poorly. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I would have preferred Warren or even Sanders and I do not like Sanders. It's weird when we have a party that is so inclusive that there has to be a choice made between black conservatives and progressives. But let's face it Black conservatives won him the primaries so all in all its a good choice. I do think Biden really needs to give Bernie an amazing cabinet position. If he wants one. Same for Warren. I would really love to see Bernie be head of HUD. And I would like to see Warren be Secretary of Education. I just don't think they would give up their Senate seats which is a shame. Or I would like Biden to give Bernie and Warren's nominations for those two roles the job. It's funny until we had Trump we didn't know how important those two roles really are. That was literally her job. Overseeing her own office. The notion that Harris, the Attorney General of the state of California, somehow didn't know that her office's official argument before the Supreme Court of California, after being ordered to release prisoners across the state by the highest court in the country, was that the state needed those prisoners for their free labor is completely insane. 17 minutes ago, Bonkers said: The system jailed them. She was the head of the system, but in that system, she does not get to be part of writing the laws, or deciding if the laws get followed or not. This is also completely ridiculous, and a flat out lie. When she was District Attorney in San Francisco, she had discretionary prosecutorial power. She chose who to go after and what laws to have her officers enforce. She chose to throw those people in jail for smoking pot. She had significantly more power as Attorney General when it came to making decisions about which state laws she chose to enforce and which to ignore. Anyone who knows anything about the legal system knows that.

It wasn't a gun on Kamala, but there were consequences to sticking her neck out. And she had her own priorities and her own limitations on time. It's about picking battles. But above all else - this idea that her lack of change makes her a terrible person or irredeemable is so out there. And the way you described the incident was not a fair and accurate portrayal of it. You said Kamala - but in reality it was lawyers for the Calfornia AG Office that Kamala was the head of. And you left out the fact that when she addressed it was to direct the lawyers to not use that argument. It shows corruption of the AG Office, but it's not that unusual a young AG wouldn't rock the boat because their career literally wouldn't survive it. And only a few dozen people were sent to state prison for marijuana convictions under Harris’ tenure. “There is no way anyone could say that she was draconian in her pursuit of marijuana cases,” said Niki Solis, a high-ranking attorney in the San Francisco Public Defender’s office during Harris’ time as DA. The overwhelming majority of people who were arrested for marijuana during Harris’ tenure were never locked up or never even charged with a crime, according to attorneys who worked on both sides of the courtroom. “Our policy was that no one with a marijuana conviction for mere possession could do any (jail time) at all,” said Paul Henderson, who led narcotics prosecutions for several years under Harris. Defendants arrested for the lowest-level possession would typically be referred to drug treatment programs instead of being charged, and weightier charges for marijuana sales would routinely be pleaded down to less serious ones, he said. Solis, who led the public defender’s office misdemeanor division for part of Harris’ tenure, agreed that her office only rarely prosecuted people for low-level, simple possession. “Kamala Harris and I disagreed on a lot of criminal justice issues, but I have to admit, she was probably the most progressive prosecutor in the state at the time when it came to marijuana,” Solis said. Everyone you accused Trump is done by the Democratic party, but in a more passive aggressive manipulative way which I think you prefer because it feels and looks better. Whatever Trump is allowed to do is done because the system allows him to do so and gives him that incentive.
