I would have loved nothing more than to have a different presidential nominee and a different VP candidate, but this is who we got right now and we, as Democrats, need to come together to make sure Trump gets out of the White House. Trump has destroyed this country in 3 and a half years and it will only get worse if he gets re-elected. 

I'm not saying that you shouldn't criticize someone's record, I'm not saying that you shouldn't have the right to not feel okay with a particular candidate, because you 100% have the right to feel that way. That said, the political spectrum is just that: a spectrum. The majority of people here and the majority of people in this thread are left leaning. Now, if I had it my way, I would push the Democratic Party to be much, much more progressive, but our enemy shouldn't be other people in the party who are also left leaning, but more moderate in their values. 

People like my parents hate the idea of Kamala Harris being VP just for the simple fact that she's a person of color. If you cannot recognize that we should fight people like them instead of having our own discussions about our varying left-leaning ideologies, then that is a very privileged mindset, to be frank. Some of y'all don't recognize how lucky y'all are to have discussions about which woman of color candidate you'd like to see be VP instead of having to have discussions with your parents or other people in your life about how having a WOC VP candidate is just as valid as having a white male for VP. 

I dont think anyone here would have a problem with what you said. But there is a difference between someone like you who supports the better of two evils, and someone who is a fan supporter of Kamala. Im sure almost everyone complaining about this will vote Biden.

People here seem to think that having a person of color as VP is going to all of a sudden change the fact that black mother mortality rate is massively higher than whites. Like all of a sudden redlining wont exist. Like a racist criminal justice system that has too many of our black brothers and sisters in jail right now when their white counterparts are living their best life in the suburbs. That all of a sudden black women across this country will no longer be paid pennies on the dollar to white women. Like reparations are all of a sudden going to happen. 

I totally understand the historical significance of Kamala as VP but the people in this thread should at least concede that it doesn't matter if it doesnt come with policy solutions that bring people of color to equal social, economic and societal status of whites. Its has to come with both.

I'm not saying that it's privileged to be a leftist. I voted for Bernie in the primaries, I still support (and always will support) the progressive movement here in the US, but when we're just fighting with each other all day instead of fighting the common enemy, that does more harm than good. 

What I'm saying is that quite frankly I think a lot of people here don't fully understand and realize just how thick headed Trump supporters are. I think y'all may see it on social media and whatever, but I gotta deal with these people on a daily basis. If we cannot fight them first and make sure that their president doesn't get re-elected, forget even thinking about any other progressive thing that can help people.

I dont disagree that female poc dont have a valuable perspective. Cori Bush is going to be an amazing congresswoman. I just dont think its fair to completely ignore the liability Kamala specifically brings to the ticket.

Being a female or a person of color is a cherry on top, but people should not take that into high  consideration. Being a woman or a person of color is not enough to make a good politician. Women and people of color are cpable of being horrible corrupted human beings that promote the same system promoted by white straight men.

I don't, however, think it's fair to expect that anybody is perfect. Kamala has never said she has a perfect record, has recognized and apologized for her unintended mistakes in the past (i.e. policies that disproportionately hurt poc when she was AG), and I think it's MANDATORY that we make space for women of color to answer for their mistakes as much as we do for white male politicians. 

We get one shot to get Trump out of office. We have 89 days. I plan on not letting a single one of those days go to waste — what are you going to do in that time?

You do realize you can defeat Trump by voting Biden / Kamala without making excuses for them and their racism?

So, how do you expect Kamala to defend her original support for medicare for all and her subsequent opposition to it? And how are they going to convince swing voters that Biden isnt incompetent and that there isnt a secret coup going on to implement "radical" left policies. I dont recall Kamala doing a good job at the debates on this specific issue and multiple times went on cable news after the fact and said she misunderstood the debate questions when she said she was supportive of elimating private insurance. 

All im saying is she is bringing unnecessary liability when other candidate did not bring that kind of baggage.

Older voters swung the election for Biden, and they voted for Biden because every liberal or neo-con commentator on every major cable news show (for whom the average viewer is 50-60+) spent the last five years presenting the notion of a Bernie Sanders candidacy as an electoral disaster and parroted the line that we needed a "moderate" to beat Trump. The DNC met years in advancespecifically to come up with a strategy to prevent him from winning, former Clinton staffers campaigned against him behind the scenes, and while Bernie was running away with the primary initially, the party actively debated changing rules to prevent him from getting the nomination and were willing to split the party in two in order to do it.

All of the other moderate candidates dropped out simultaneously and endorsed Biden while Bernie was winning the primary expressly to stop him from taking the nomination and all of their support flowed to Biden, while the press cheered them on. This was all widely acknowledged.

Biden isn't even popular with the people that are claiming that they're going to vote for him. Most of them have flat out said that they're voting against Trump rather than for Biden.

The only people who will be responsible if he loses are the people that voted for him in the primary. They picked him. If he loses, it's their fault. They got what they wanted and they have to deal with the repercussions.

I can't believe this needs to be said, but Kamala is QUALIFIED for this position REGARDLESS of her race or sex.

The fact that she is both a woman, a person of color, and a daughter of immigrants makes her supremely qualified to unify the Democratic Party, offer us genuine leadership in a time of race riots all over the nation, and to provide a stark contrast to Tr*mp and his nearly all-white admin.

Can't believe I have to say this, but representation matters to some people. It might not to you, and that's OK, but f*ck off if you're going to judge people over it.
